What do you all think?

Fail. At the end of the site it was like "Twitter it!" "Like it!" "Share!" and all that Social crap that I barely use. It was okay until that, then I lol'd.

Did the quiet place just implied all my friends are meaningless?

I actually liked the song .

Well , he implied that the "notifications" of our friends are meaningless .

ya it is a bit ironic at the end.. but then again, how else would other view the sites if it wasn't for social networking..
and I think some people missed the point here.. its to take time out of your day/life to just take time for yourself.. just a moment.

Most of them are, but some aren't.

I get your point, don't worry. I really hope FB and other social networks as well get hacked.
@takolin: they are, like 99%. What kind of notifications are useful? You don't use Fb for 911 matters lol

It all depends on what your definition of meaningful is and this is entirely subjective and it depends on what scale you're looking at.
Lets say a good friend got a new job after being unemployed for 6 months. For him it wouldn't be a meaningless thing to say. It would change his life most likely and give a new sense of direction. Now for lets say the entire world economy, it's highly unlikely that he getting a new job will affect thing which makes the notification on a world scale meaningless.

It's not that we missed the point, it's just that the point was stupid. The website implied that we don't already do these things and that we are all "addicted" to these virtual worlds. Now I can't speak for everyone else here, but I already take time off and go to my "quiet place". I study every night for simple personal growth. I often take walks in the park by myself and feed ducks. I spend hours on end just reading. I lie in the dark, with my eyes closed listening to music. Not just listening to music, but what exactly encompasses and makes each song what it is. The melody, the words, the way each instrument compliments each other. I meditate, I reflect, I write. I spend time every day getting in tune with who I am, or finding my "quiet place" so to speak.
Just because we place an importance upon social media doesn't mean that it's "meaningless" in any way. Social media has revolutionised the way in which we communicate and share information. It's a powerful tool that lets us keep in contact with people who we otherwise wouldn't be able to, due to problems like physical distance or a simple lack of time. If anything, all those notifications we get are more important than we realise: they are a continual string in our ever growing and ever important social lives. Sure, it's not socialising in the "old school" fashion. But it's not replacing it at all, it's an additional means of communication which can actually increase the frequency of us engaging in face to face socialising. Despite it's flaws and limitations it's still a valid form of communication in the rapidly growing technocracy we live in.

This is why God invented smoking

I love to end the day just sitting somewhere, alone, taking a smoke and looking to the stars. I can't bring myself to just take that moment without a 'meaning', so I use smoking as an excuse to take that time for myself.
edit: at first I didn't feel like I had time to go to the quiet place (the irony..) but I just 'went' there. The music started playing, I was chilling in the quiet place, and then when the music stops I figure I press space bar and get back to my shit. WRONG! Out comes this anti facebook crap and whines about how we live. Why couldn't it just have been 'the quiet place', with some music and nothing more. Isn't that the idea? To just chill? I don't think reading through 5min of whines is going to my quiet place at all. A missed opportunity, and quite frankly one of the most hypocritical projects I've seen in a while.

Doesn't that depend on what time of the day it is and who's around you.
Smoking while sitting in a bar and smoking while taking a break from studying for exams were 2 different things for me back when I smoked.

Eh...I'm on break from using any social online services for a while since they tend to be more of an inconvenience for me. But having a phone with me doesn't mean I'm always looking at it - not like I use it for work.
Off Topic:
I probably have like 1 or 2 smoking days in a month, on average. It's relaxing but I can find other things that are just as good. Enjoying a cold blue fall or winter morning with a hot cup of coffee listening to an excellent track before starting the day. If I'm on vacation, I would love to go to a remote cold place with a nice view...f
uck the beach.
Thinking of going to Alaska around Winter Solstice for a few days when I'm all settled down

wat
If you dont want to bother with notifications/txts/emails, then dont bother checking it? If you dont care about someone's notifications, then dont read it? or hell, not even add them as friends. If you get a txt message, ignore it? I mean its not that hard, its not like you are forced to do these things, lol.

Is not that easy when you are way too used to it. I don't have FB anymore, My Twitter been inactive for months, and I check mails when I get on laptop. Idk, ask someone who is into this.

I love those moments when you can just relax and think of nothing troubling...just being there, like on a camping trip in the nature, leing on the grass in front of the tent and gazing up to the stars, wondering, imagining, feeling human and being one with everything around you, when I am doing this, I feel like I can pass any exam or achieve anything in the world.
All the today's media and the social networking, there is something good in it, sure..but its also distancing us from the "spiritual realm" in which we can really dig deep into our thoughts and...well thats just it, the best feeling in the world for me.

Is it really the media and social networking causing that? Or society as a whole? Anything that occupies our time in a non-spiritual manner, in theory, distracts as from "that realm" as you put it. Social networking is taking a blame for a simple human instinct: to occupy ones brain with stimulants. It's not that social networking sites and "the media" (lolwut?) is too entertaining or distracting, it's just that as a species we soon grow tired of the mundane and need other forms of stimulant. Meditating and reflecting upon life is special in it's own way, it's pretty cool and all, but if you do it too often it becomes stale and loses it's meaning.
