I believe it started out as a football riot, until a police officer shot a rioter. I'm not 100% sure though so feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

and seriously tea? football riot? ...you know it takes 10 seconds to read the news guys!
It all started on Thursday when police stoped this black man on his way home in a taxi, there was a shoot out and police killed him. But it turned out that this man didnt shoot police first as they first claimed and the police apprently shoot him dead for a trivial reason.
So adding to the fact that most 12 to 14 year olds have nothing to do (mass closing of youth centers by the government), they feel like they have been forgotten, police are consently harrassing them and the current gang culture in London. That man getting killed by the police was the last straw, the match that lighted the powderkeg.
Mass rioting in east london for the first 2 days was in responce to what many see as the police over reaction to a black person and as such and a meaning (still a stupid action, but anyone who remembers the Brixton or southall riots of the 1980's knows what lead to them.) Now its just that the different gangs have all joined together and what you have now is mass looting, and the random buring of buildings and cars...and is spreading throughout east london and now reports are coming in of more problems in leeds and birmingham.
And in responce to Isis (Jennifer), i thought i was fine as it was contained to east london...but seems last night it kicked off in ealing which is like 5 minuets down the road...lol

The riot actually started in North London on Saturday after the peaceful protests? about the man who was killed. I live in East London and from what I've heard the rioting is just an excuse for people to go looting. Quite sick watching the news seeing innocent people having their cars, shops and houses burnt down. Disappointed seeing the police not taking control of the situations but I guess there's not much they can do when it's like 10 officers against 200-300 rioters (yay for the cutbacks.)
Like a local police officer said to me yesterday when I asked him what's going on the response was 'monkeys dicking about.' =]
Scumbags like these should be shot though.

As much as I'd like to believe this riot is "organized" satman, and a stand up to the man - it is not. No riot is organized, it just happens. There is never any "real" or solid reason for a riot; you will hear 50 different things on what triggered it. Rioting is just an excuse for delinquents to run around and destroy sh*t because in mass groups the police have a much lower chance of making an arrest...

It was, they (gangs) were texting, tweeting, and bb'm'ing each other to make truces and co-ordinate attacks. Scary but true, even the police asked blackberry to cut their service to east london from 6 to 7 last night.

Kinda dumb to think that people wouldn't organize violence in this day and age. Had this been the first night maybe you could say that but this is the third day after hundreds of arrest with police and firefighters stretched thin all over the city and no end in sight. People have been giving live reports of what the rioters are like and they are organized. They move from place to place avoiding police and leaving them to clean up whats left. If the police give chase they spread out and another group comes around and finishes the work forcing police to double back etc. They know exactly what they're doing.
Also kinda stupid to think riots don't have triggers. That's not to say this hasn't gotten out of control and there aren't other motives involved now but there was a spark that lit the fire and everyone knows it was that guy getting shot. It might have been something else if things had happened differently. For the reaction to be this violent the area must have been a powder keg. I'm sure by now most of the rioters have nothing but destruction and loot on their mind but it's not like anyone was expecting them to behave nobly after they realized what they could get away with if the used the powers of the digital age.

From what I can gather, there has been some protesting over unemployment, said guy was shot, because he was apparently pointing a gun at said policemen. Then all hell broke loose in London and some other cities in England. Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester, I think...
