No topic on this?
Apparently this is a Bill going through U.S. Government channels, it presents a serious threat to the age of the internet-media. It will make amongst other things, STREAMING A FELONY, it will be a felony to upload/view/edit copyrighted material, using a 10-strikes system, after which you can land in JAIL.
Gamers and youtubers are going crazy over this, they could loose all their work....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib7-vSrp6y8http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtex ... l=s112-978http://shoryuken.com/2011/06/29/trollin ... ltradavid/Here's some info.
This is what I wrote. I didn't mention that the companies who actually benefit from these uploaders etc, will just allow it to be done in their ToS, but it's still a very serious threat. Keep in mind I'm actually dutch and I didn't really take my time to write it properly but I think I make some good arguments.
"There are hundreds of thousands of people that spend a serious amount of their time to entertain others, using popular streaming and video websites. This "scene" has exploded over the last few years and this Bill would devastate a huge amount of American Citizens.
A good chunk of these people even earn money doing this! Through contracts by media companies that showcase certain material (such as Game Reviews, Product Reviews, How-To's, the incredibly popular "Let's-Plays", the list goes on), people that profesionally video-edit copyrighted material for contests and their real-life portfolio for educational purposes for example, people who are directly hired by these companiesYou will be TAKING their income and/or FUTURE from them!
Not to mention that you will at the same time deliver a serious blow to the marketing of ALL of the companies whom's material can't be video-edited, streamed and/or uploaded anymore due to this Bill! There are several people whom have over 3 million subscribers (!!),
This market is very real and WILL suffer should this Bill pass. You will -DIRECTLY- affect students, the actual companies that loose a tremendous amount of attention, people who earn their living in this digital age through video directing, and not to mention, THE INTERNET FREEDOM OF AMERICAN CITIZENS!"
Here's a petition form:
http://act.demandprogress.org/letter/te ... C&rd=1&t=1Take your time or just use the default petition text in which case you'll be done in 1 minute. This is insane... America.....sigh.

I doubt it will go through. YouTube will
most likely bribe someone...lol but seriously, they make
Way to much money and employ to many people to
Be put out of business.
Also if it's past by the US congress. Then only effects
A company in the US. So nothing stopping them moving
Their offices/headquarters to another country and as such
This won't effect them.

Lol I doubt it's going to pass but even if it does, can they really keep track of the heavy traffic online? It's already illegal to upload and distribute copyright material but so many people go unhindered doing it.

could you please make full sentences?
ie do not
press enter
prematurely
i personally
feel that it
reads very
annoying.
I know premature enter pressing is a big problem for a lot of men, but with enough practice I'm sure you'll be able to satisfy us all

another desperate action of an industry that's trying to hold onto their outdated businessmodel rather then to adapt to their changing market.
@ woutr
sometimes you get that when you make a post using your mobile phone.

The sentences are stopped at random points. You can clearly see this is not the fault of a mobile phone, just premature enteration.

It won't pass. They've been trying different types of bills like this for the last 5+ years. All of them fail.

Apparently every month there's someone that's trying to "limit" Internet user. It becomes hot stuff for a couple days and then it just cools down.

It mostly interests me because of how stupid people are. Prisons are already overloaded and now they want to pay for even more people to occupy them? Over 50% of youtube is reposted vids..

The reason they cool down is because people get upset. If you don't let it bother you than they would have no reason in stopping it.

Main issue here is control...while governments can block certain websites and such, and stop people from seeing things or doing things they dont want them to do, it just doesnt work at all.
People can get around any sort of blocking attempt and with something as big and global as the internet how do you ever control it anyway? yes you can try to clamp down on companies and force them to comply to certain rules and regulations...but then said compaines can just simply move to another country which would let them carry on with their pratices.
I see it like going to a very busy flee/open market and seeing
1000+ people shouting at each other standing on boxes, and then for the police to tell them they cant do that here...and then for the person to just pick up their box and move to another part of the market and carry on...lol woutR wrote:The sentences are stopped at random points. Am now taking pills for my premature enteration.... thanks for the support
