Synonym for Sugarcoat - LOCK PLEASE. Shamori is awesome

Having a major brain fart. Can't think of the word and it's driving me nuts. It's no in the thesaurus for some reason. It's a word used to describe the substitute word for a harsher (or more real) version of of it.
For example:
"Died" becomes "expired" or "passed away"
Anyone?
