According to Wikipedia, Windows XP still have the highest usage share, any they're talking about Windows 8 already.
I don't know if this happened when Windows 98 became old, maybe people kept using it until it became unsupported by most of programs.
So the question is for XP users, why are you still using XP?

The only reason I switched over to win7 was because my old pc blew up so I had to get a new one. Else I'd still have XP.

The difference in %'s from 7 and XP aren't that big. I'm assuming most companies have yet to make the change as well for fear of any trouble they could run into regarding software, as well as the cost it implies.

Nah don't kid yourself, 7 is in every way superior than XP. Vista on the other hand...

I use XP at work but most companies stay with an OS till it's last breath. I use Vista and 7 at home only because I got it dirt cheap with a student discount. Otherwise I would be hittin linux.

Honestly the OS feels the same with all 3. It's windows.

Lol my mom is the only one in her building that runs Windows 7 because XP stopped running on her work computer for some reason.

Guess businesses can't be bothered with upgrading.

Hello, SRF, it's been a while ^^

Thought I'd drop by.

The only really good thing about Windows 8 is the ARM port. A lot of people were waiting for Windows to be ported to ARM. ARM processors allow easy building of SoC's (Systems on a Chip). For example, I own the Toshiba AC-100, which has an nVidia Tegra ARM chip, and runs Android. I opened the laptop case, and the whole system could actually fit in the palm of my hand. Most of the laptop case was, in fact, empty. ARM has great power efficiency (I've got six hours of battery life on the AC-100), and the Tegra processor also has native HD video decoding. With the new technology coming into view (cheaper SSD drives, ARM Processors), Microsoft had to make the step too. It's a tad too late, though, considering what success Android and iOS have.

Nevertheless, it's going to be interesting. Can't wait for it to come out. :)

I use Windows 7 on my PC at home. At work they're testing all the applications under 7 and lauching it in phases at different locations. I think my business unit is going to be one of the first ones.

I prefer 7 and can't wait.

Most people only use their computers as a browser + type writer with spell check. Knowing microsoft they're gonna load it up with glitter so they can sell home, premium, basic, professional, ultimate, and student editions.

I have Vista. I really can't be bothered with the alleged poor performance or whatever, runs fine for me. I got a new PC and this came with it, wasn't really by choice but doesn't bother me in the slightest.
I really dig that you can search straight from the start menu. That's the only real bonus I see over xp.

btw, what are the differences between home/pro etc? I always get ultimate/pro because I don't wanna miss stuff, but idk what I would be missing out on in the first place.

XP is just fast and I can roam the internet/ play games..
Thats all I care for. I don't need fancy GUI or widgets to use a PC..

XP is less intensive, XP is simpler, Many teachers got accustomed to XP. MANY MANY school/science programs etc. run better in XP since it was the OS during the time it was made.

The only reason I switched to 7 is because I got 7 Ultimate which supposedly has high XP-backward compatibility for 10$ USD. Woot faculty discounts. XD

I know that most computers at my school's campus has vista or 7 installed, they just set it to XP view to make teachers happy.

Haha, that's funny.

Telling someone how to get rid of lag and then actually double post yourself because of lag :sohappy:

(Yes, I know these are different types of lag.)

Yeah not as funny if you correct yourself right after. Especially when it's about differentiating internet lag and computer performance. :sohappy:

I use Windows 7 on my desktop, which I use for games etc.

However, I still have Windows XP on my laptop. When I first bought it around 4 years ago, Windows Vista had just arrived. So, as soon as I got my laptop unpacked, I uninstalled Windows Vista and installed Windows XP instead.
Simply because I would always prefer XP over Vista, lol.

There are several reasons why I haven't installed Windows 7 on my latpop. First of all, it's not the strongest computer, and I really don't want to slow it down any further.
I just use it for school, and I really like the stability of XP. I'm afraid if I install Windows 7 on the machine, it might **** things up a bit.

Besides, Windows XP (and 98 and 95) gives me some kind of nostalgic feeling. I kinda wanna keep with it as long as possible :)

That being said, I still believe Windows 7 is superior in any way possible. That's why I have it on my desktop!

I'm not really looking forward to Windows 8. Windows 8 will be great for all touch devices, but will most likely suck on a computer. I mean, the whole thing is optimized for touch screens, lol. It shall be exciting to see if they succeed making ONE operating system for all kind of devices.

That should't be the reason it is loaded on the gpu and should be offloaded when a program takes fullscreen.

So when you press alt+tab it restarts loading the aero theme?
I thought it's kept in the graphics memory, because whn I click on alt+tab or windows logo button, it loads in no time.
