why do people say getting drunk is fun?
i think its just overrated, and you could just have as much fun when being sober. The difference is that you end up doing stupid things you end up regretting in the morning. Opinions anyone?

Have you been drunk? Experience is probably the best way to find out in this case..I had the same mindset when I was a bit younger. I wouldn't say it's fun, but it's different. Sometimes it's fun and sometimes it's...different.

Im guessing what your talking about, with the regret, well, You have stories to tell, even if you dont remember it, You would have a little bit of info from your friends on what happened, You have war wounds maybe, you could of had the best night of your life and spent it the way you wanted to.

Drinking and your experiences doing so will be based highly upon the atmosphere your drinking in.
I've always believed that alcohol is a mood amplifier. It makes the highs even higher, the lows even lower and can turn something simple into something extraordinary. When celebrating something great, when surrounded by fantastic mates or when you’re in an incredibly chilled and content mood, drinking can be a hell of a lot of fun. It helps you to relax, come out of your shell and smile. I can honestly say some of the best night I've ever had have been while drinking with my friends. But without the atmosphere, without those who are close to me around, it's over rated. It's not something I enjoy doing by myself, simply "because". It's an addition to an already good environment but it makes it even better.
With that said I've had great times being sober as well; many times I will opt to be designated driver (to try and save a bit of money, drinking in clubs is not cheap) but still have just as much fun as if I had been drinking. A good night will be good regardless of whether your under the influence, but it can make some night absolutely unforgettable.
It's not everyone's cup of tea though. If you dislike it than so be it, I won't preach you over to my ways. But it does have a lot of benefits, despite how much my wallet hates it >:[

I don't really get drunk myself. Well, I can drink if at a party with friends or so, but I don't drink just to become drunk, if you get what I mean.
It still bugs me why people drink until they're drunk. Typical conversation in my classroom after a weekend:
Guy1: "Wow the party yesterday was so freaking sweet!"
Guy2: "Heck yeah, it was simply awesome - best party in months!"
Non-participating guy: "So, what happened there?"
Guy 1 and 2: "I don't remember at all, I was Farking drunk!"
So... yeah. My conclusion: They must believe that drinken was fun and not the party and what they did. I don't know, I just don't like the idea of "losing control" over my actions, while I'm drunk.

I think it's fun to get completely wasted every once in a while. The fun I have then is fun I never have when I'm sober. It's a good release too. And yeah, the best parties are the ones you don't completely remember.

Alcohol affects the ability of your brain to make judgements, so it's not that you are actually having more fun, it's that your perception of what is fun is altered. The company you keep when drinking is a bigger factor in determining whether you have a fun night or not, not the drinking itself.
I'd just say it's a perpetuated myth created by alcoholics and alcohol based companies that drinking = fun.

The company is usually more important than the actual drinking.
I only got blackout drunk once at a friends wedding, all I remember was drinking pear brandy+coke(lol pussy), realizing how much I'd drank and ballroom dancing with my 5 year old sister - and I don't know how to dance.. Slept the rest of the weekend.
I acted like a complete idiot and loved every minute of it.

You can imagine a big, hairy viking dancing with a tiny blonde dressed in pink, the whole party was jealous.

its not about BEING drunk, its about GETTING drunk.
getting drunk is way more fun than being drunk. sure you can pound back 6 beers and be drunk all night, or you can take it easy and slowly get your buzz on,then get drunk.

Katt Williams, my room mate has that DVD. That line gets quoted a lot around here.
A lot of good points already brought up in this thread so no need repeating them. That said, there are different levels of drunk... are we talking black-out drunk? Tipsy drunk? A little buzzed? Etc... ?
I really enjoy drinking with friends. Losing all inhibitions really takes parties to a different level. Partying with 8000 other drunk college kids on south padre beach for spring break was one of the funnest experiences of my life.

Yup. Shit was hilarious the first time I saw it because I have a friend that sounds exactly like him.

in my case, when i drink, people say i turn into an even funnier and social guy, so idk, i like to get drunk, but not like puking drunk. It makes you have more self-confidence and in general i have more fun XD
but everybody reacts different to alcohol...
