Name of an anime

I remember a while back maybe about 4 years ago. There was an anime they played on toonami. All i can remember is that it was about this dude with a sword that had different forms. And there was a chick with him, and a weird white creature like thing with them. Its really been bugging me, please help me out

If you liked Rave Master you should check out Fairy Tail, pretty cool too, made by the same creator and share many similarities.

Except that the animation is horrible, the manga is better.
