The Musings of a Disenchated Man.

Lately, I've become disenchanted with a number of things, such as:

1. Obese people. Seriously, what are they thinking? I don't get how someone could let themselves become so incredibly overweight, and not do something to change. Do they not realize how repulsive they are?

2. Politics/government. Yesterday I moseyed over to the TN State Capital, sat in on the Senate and House proceedings, and I must say, I found the whole thing to be rather ridiculous. All the fake politeness, half-hearted formalities, etc. I don't see how anyone could find politics interesting enough to make a career out of it.

3. Gas prices. And no, I'm not about to start whining about how high they are. On the contrary, I'm going to talk about how the average American citizen needs to quit whining about having to pay an extra dollar or two for gas each day. In the grand scheme of things, are you really going to miss that money? No. And yes, I know higher gas prices force truckers to charge more for the stuff they deliver, which causes us to have to pay more for each item. But still, I'm sick and tired of seeing people rant on facebook about how "*insert-generic-name-here can't believe how much money he/she had to pay to fill up his/her tank today!". If you're going to bitch, at least bitch about something that actually matters, as in the overall increase of your grocery bill, not the 10 extra dollars it costs to fill up your tank.

@#1 those people live in a world of extreme excess, one that came only in the last couple hundred years. their ancestors lived in times of extreme scarcity, and over the course of thousands of years have developed bodies to cope with it. bodies that reward eating anything of high energy content and storing as much of that energy as possible. you see, back then being able to store as much as you can was advantageous to the species; as they lived in scarcity, not knowing when the next meal was going to be. now with agricultural advancements, a large portion of us get to enjoy excesses, something our ancient ancestors did not. however, we some still inherit those genes that incline us towards high energy content foods. you see its not that so simple as they can just choose to stop. for such people, the will to stop eating is challenged by a body that naturally demands excess.

Obese people, unless through some kind of disease.. i don't really get either.
Politics has never been my thing, if i read a so called 'plan' by dutch parties i get annoyed xD its all about turning around facts and window dressing 'we plan to spent your money responsibly'... yeah, great.... now what exactly do you plan to friggin do.

As for gas prices i disagree with you, you can't look into other people's wallets bro ;)

No body demands THAT much food. As clearly demonstrated by the excess of fat/aka stored energy not being used.

I have no problem with people who are overweight. I realize some peoples metabolism, genes, etc, all play a factor in determining a persons weight. So if you're a bit large, that's fine. Just don't let it get out of hand. There's absolutely no reason for a person to be obese.

If a slight increase in gas prices is effecting you that much, you're probably to blame.

at the beggining of the year it took 25 dollars to fill up my tank... now it takes 40... considering i fill up 3 times a month... thats 120 dollars a month... a whole extra 45 dollars more..
not considering my car bill, plus insurance... insurance is 100 and car payment is 300
if you are saying shit like that its because either you dont have a car, mommy and daddy pay for it AND gas, or u won the lottery...

You're completely right, i hate people whining and not doing stuff with they should do.And about overweight it's in you're genes.I eat all the time and i still have average body, if i don't have something in my mouth (not including penis lol) i can't concetrate on my work.I don't care about gas prices rising, i'm comfortable with it, i would probably used that extra dollar for some retarded chocolate.

That's still only $4 a day. Which is about a whole $2 more then you used to pay per day. An increase of $2 a day shouldn't make THAT big of an impact on you. Unless you've made quite a few poor decisions in your lifetime.

Pretty sure you don't need to win the lottery to be able to afford that.

Oh and please, you're making this far too easy.

Tasdik # 1 and 3 are pretty much crude generalizations. For a lot of people, obesity is a medical problem, and some people can't afford healthier organic food, so fast food is an option. Furthermore gas prices, 10$ a week is over 500$ more per year, which adds up to about 5 weeks of food, so yeah, it's a big deal. And it is more than 10$ more for a lot of people. Watch out, your assumptions are very risky.

I've yet to meet an obese person who eats in moderate portions, regardless of what their eating. They always eat extraordinarily large portions of food.

500 a year is about $1.4 dollars a day. Again, not a huge deal.

obese people without any health problems that makes them obose are lazy fat f*cks. and I have the right to call them so, because they simply are. if you refuse to take care of your body, then you are worth nothing. I always find it funny how they blame society and McDonald's and sh!t for their obesity when other people, like me and probably you, also visit the Mac and live in the same society, but are able to handle it without any problems.

most people are obese for one reason and one reason only: being f*cking lazy.

tasdik, if you supported 4 people, and were the only form of income in the family, youd be pissed about the gas prices.

i dont understand why you makes posts like this man. it makes it really clear how young and naive you are. you have no life experience, and have a lot of growing up to do. seriously.

I like your mind, but I do wish you'd use some capitalization here and there.

I still don't really see your point. The only way the scenario, you described, would be difficult is if the people you were supporting were driving as much as you, and didn't have jobs. Now, assuming you have a wife and two kids, or whatever, the only one who would actually be a significant burden, in regards to consuming large quantities of gas, is your wife. But that kind of comes with the territory.

you probably live a comfy life but some people need that extra 1.4 dollars to make ends meet and if you can't manage that extra money 500*40 average lifespan of what someone would maintain a job thats 20,000 you're in debt

$1.4 dollars won't make a difference.

Sure, it's a large chunk of change over the course of 40 years, but then again, so would be your overall income.

I suppose if you're going to be a pedant, I should let you know you misspelled 'disenchanted' in your thread title.

Going in order:

Your first concern is actually very common and could be explained medically and biologically. For the most part, our brains evolved a way to avoid things perceived as diseased or otherwise anomalous. Unfortunately, being aware of the ideologies you follow, it puts you in an awkward position of simultaneously experiencing something and denying it's true.

If you want the nitty gritty on what's actually happening, here's the studies I'm referring to (PDF Links):

http://www2.psych.ubc.ca/~schaller/Park ... er2003.pdf
http://www2.psy.unsw.edu.au/Users/lvart ... 010%29.pdf

Don't get me wrong, you're still incredibly prejudicial, but at least now you have a scapegoat.

Second point:
Tasdik wrote:I found the whole thing to be rather ridiculous. All the fake politeness, half-hearted formalities, etc. I don't see how anyone could find politics interesting enough to make a career out of it.

So it's basically church. Moving on!

Your third point is a frivolous rant about people's frivolous ranting about gas prices. Then you go on to say:
Tasdik wrote:If you're going to bitch, at least bitch about something that actually matters

I'm not sure how you can seriously propose that after giving a spit-speckled rant on fat people.

I wondered how long it'd take someone to notice that typo.

Fantastic.

I see your point. But there is very little the average American can do about the current gas prices, and yet there is quite a bit that overweight people can do about their current situation, but they don't.

And yes, I am being "mean". But last time I checked, this whole, "Let's just not say anything to obese people about their weight because we don't want to offend them" approach hasn't really done any good.

My frustration with obese people is that their obesity, actually effects the people around them. For instance, I went to the capital with a few classmates of mine. One of them happened to be an obese 18 year old girl. Thanks to her obesity, she was unable to keep up with the rest of the group. We had to go up a rather long flight of stairs, all of us, with the exception of her, didn't have any problem doing this. She, on the other hand, had to sit down for a few minutes, one of us had to run and get her water because she had dehydrated herself. She was out of commission for the rest of the day, which ruined quite a few of our plans for the day, all because she just couldn't put down the fork, and get some exercise. There's no excuse for that.

And don't even get me started about having to deal with obese people in confined areas. Such as trains, cars, etc.

You know, I'd be more offended, if I actually cared what a bunch of, self-proclaiming "mature" people, who still frequent a gaming forum, thought. But I don't.

Oh but hey, I just realized that this whole obesity thing might actually be a blessing in disguise. Obese people die younger then most people. Which means that they won't be a burden on the tax payers for very long anyhow. Fantastic.

Not really. Since I think it'd be a smart idea to revoke the citizenship and force people over the age of 70 out of the country. After that age, I don't really see them benefiting society. This would also help the social security problems.

Let's pawn them off on Canada. Maybe that country will actually become semi-useful. And this way, you can still visit them whenever you want.

Blame my OCD for spotting that.

The thing about giving a reality check to that obese girl who ruined your trip is that you're doing it on a gaming forum that the girl is most likely unaware of. If you were serious in your proposition, you could confront her and let her know how you feel. Until then, your epiphany is pointless and tantamount to the rantings about gas prices on your Facebook. It helps absolutely no one here and the girl remains blissfully unaware of your opinion while gorging down a three-course meal in the afternoon.

Personally, I would have just planned ahead if I knew I was travelling with a person with a handicap.

I agree more or less about all your statements except the 3rd.
You would not understand unless you are a man/women who was kids relying on them to provide..so when extra money is taken that could be better feeding your family you will complain.

Also on your 1st statement the same could also be said for anorexic people.
