Folding

Post by [SD]Master_Wong »

Some of you will know already what folding is but for those who dont its simple creating proteins in 3d space on your computer for medical science. essentially creating a supercomputer to render these complex imagines to help us understand and hopefully cue dieseases

Anyone can fold even on a laptop iv only just started myself but to do it simply download the client from here
http://folding.stanford.edu/

And your good to go.

If anyone is interested iv started a suddendeath gaming group
team id: 201654, good to see what we can do

Use to do this for EOCF (extreme overclocking forum) under the name Somebodynew. At one time I was the top producer for the team with around 10k ppd. I don't know what I'm ranked on the team now... haven't folded in a long time. At one point I had several dedicated machines. It can get addicting.

Now that I split my electricity bill with 3 other people I can't fold.

I have f@h running at certain times a day, with my fermi gpu3 client and and my cpu client. I produce 100 wu a day, I could spit out more, but I actually use my pc :sohappy:

Basically it uses the combined processing power of all computers/ps3's that are hooked up, to create a sort of super computer that'll help them solve various things.

Any idle cpu cycles it can grab. Memory isn't usually a problem.

Used to do f@h and seti@home a few years ago. Haven't done any wu's for years.

My laptop is always doing something, unless it registers idle as in cpu usage lower than xx%? o.O

100 WU a day? I downloaded this program, but I can't get it to take more than 12% of my CPU, even if I want. Maybe I sat it up incorrectly?

I believe I joined your group. Can't find myself on the group list yet, but maybe I'll just have to wait a day or two :)

Yeah, unless things changed a lot both f@h and s@h would max out both cores of a dual-core Athlon. This was about 6-7 years ago though, I introduced everyone I know to folding once I got tired of seti@home. I believe we have a better chance of curing cancer or Alzheimer's or other diseases than finding extraterrestrial life.
