So,
I just bought myself a
HTC Desire HD
I haven't been able to put the damn thing down, it's been so much fun playing with it and just getting used to it as well.
Now, im new to smartphones, but i was wondering are there any Apps out there that people strongly suggest or just suggest i get / give a try. I don't mind if they have to be bought. I'm just trying to get a sense of what is out there and awesome.
Danke!

what i find very useful is the whatsapp app

you can upload stuff to facebook if you ahve that

Also, check out if any of your friends have one of those "free message apps" and use the same one as them, so that you can send these messages for free instead of paying for them.
Have fun! Android FTW <3

im writing you this message from an app right now. Im using a galaxy s, so we pretty much got the same phone since they both run on android and use the same apps. I'd suggest you get the oprah browser, cause the default browser on android is not that great.
Some other nice apps are Mp3 Music Downloader, Google Goggles and What's App. My two favorite games in the Market are Angry birds and Ninjump.
You should just check the Market now and then and see what's new and what's popular.

I'd suggest Advanced Task Killer.
Android likes to leave all your different programs running in the background. Advanced Task Killer allows you to stop those programs, thus saving battery life and increasing performance.

Wildfire is a cheap version of desire.
My friends got a review site for Android apps
http://www.topandroidapps.co.uk . Shows a decent range of apps which i use when looking for new apps to download. (i've got a Desire)
The main recommendation i would give though is getting a browser, the default one was terrible when i used to use it. I now use Dolphin Browser HD.

Well, first off, I must congratulate you for not being a dumbass and purchasing an iPhone.
Good phone you chose, and I lost all of my favorite apps ( I use the HD2 so I constantly have a different android rom), so I have none to recommend.

google goggles is just a fun app, it uses augmented reality to give you information on almost anything you need. you can just make a picture of a product and it will tell you everything about the brand etc. it also recognizes all famous paintings and you can even translate wholoe sentences to english just by taken a photo.
mp3 music downloader is free app, it allows you to download almost all songs for free. it's very handy when you're not at home and want to hear a certain song you don't have on your phone. many people use youtube for that, but the youtube's mobile quality s*cks. mp3 downloader lets you download any song in high quality and saves it right on your phone.

So i just went on the Droid Market to find both Advanced Task Killer and Mp3 Downloader, only to see that there are multiples of each. Just made by different coders.
Shit.

just go to the market, check the most popular free apps ans scroll down until you find the MP3 Music Downloader. The first MP3 music downloader you find while scrolling down is usually is the best as it's the most popular one.

Same with Advanced Task Killer. I looked it up and it's just under the Facebook for Android app on the Top Free Applications section of the market.

OFFtopic: Is the battery life short? I heard that the desire has identical properities for the new Inspire ( AT&T ) and wanted to get a lil more info cause I might buy it.
I suggest wordfeud ( or something like that ) for HTC.. its like scarbble if you like that kind of game

I can't be a judge of batter life yet, for the first week ish the batter life is shorter than expected, whilst your phone and battery adapt to your lifestyle, but so far i've only had to charge it at night i guess. Except for day one when i was using the shit out of it, had to charge it twice in the day.

There is pretty much no way of saving it, even darkening the screen doesn't help TOO much, if you use it day to day, it should be fine though.

Suprised no one mentionned Tango. It basically allows you to "facetime" with Apple and Android.

First of all you should download
AppBrain AppStore. Simply because it's a better and more fun way to browse apps. The applications front page is updated everyday with the new and most downloaded applications. It has lots of filters etc. for finding apps that you prefer, and you can even filter per country. It basically just links to the original Android Market, but it's just way easier to find new apps using this app!
Here is the list of apps I would suggest you to try out:
Games:- Angry Birds
- Doodle Dash
-
Game Dev Story (Extremely addictive - seriously!)
- Fruit Slice
- Gun Bros (One of the best graphic games for Android!)
- Impossible level game also know as ILG (This one is extremely difficult but worth the few cents it cost)
-
Moron test (This one is very fun to play but even funnier to let your friends play, and just enjoy looking at them, failing BIG TIME!. Buy the full version!)
- Pocket God
-
Worms (this is the original Worms World Party game from EA. It's a bit hard to get to learn but when you are used to it, it's just good old nostalgic fun)
Programs/other-
Advanced Task Killer- CNET News (This is the CNET application - good for tech news!)
- Dolphin Browser HD and
Dolphin Browser Mini (This is my favorite browser - works pretty much like FireFox. I've tried all the browsers available for Android but this one is the one I like the most)
- MSN Talk
- QuickMark
-
Shazam (Great for finding song names. If for example you're listening to the radio and want to know what the song name is)
- SwipePad (awesome little thing to play around with)
- Youtube (yeah, a youtube application)
I've highlighted the most "important" applications. Have fun and please come with some feedback on what you think about the apps
