Hey,

I always have the problem at school that my files that i have at home in the pc aren't at school.. i always loose my USB etc... Now, my friend showed me something called DropBox. There, you can store 2GB of files free on the internet via a folder on your computer that sync automatically. You can use another pc or even iphone/itouch to go on the internet and to acces these things! I use this now and love it :0 so i tought that i'd share it with you guys!

Or you could make a FTP server and then you could get all your files no matter where you are.

In DropBox, you download a program to your computer, which then opens a folder. You can place this folder on your computer and put my documents in it. After this, everytime you put/change something in that foler "documents", it automatically changes uploads/changes it online

Dropbox is legit. I work at a research lab and some of the people there use that to save their images on it and analyze the image at home.

Goseki is right, in fact new macbooks come with dropbox pre-installed. It's a nifty idea.

It's a personal thing. Some ppl bring flash drives, some external drives, others just dump it into dropbox. I just bring a flash drive since I had to travel from lab to lab and I liked having the images with me so I could hand them off directly.

The guy I know that used that just referred everyone in his lab so he had like 8 gigs or so.

Storing files online and accessing them from any PC has been around for a very long time now...why does it seems like it's a new concept here?

The thing that is new about this is that it automatically syncs your data. So you don't have to keep uploading new files to this online "box".

Yeah used it in my last project, before that I had g-drive, worked pretty good too. Dropbox is handy cuz you can either use the installed folder on your pc or go to their site, log in and get the data.

I have two 16gb flashdrives. I think I'm good on portable memory. If I really need more I could always buy an external. They're getting cheaper and cheaper. Also gmail for 7gb if I really need anything if I forget.

Problem with dropbox is that if you use it in a group and people can work in the same document there is a chance of saving it over eachother thus losing work >.< That kind sucks, that's why I always save it to my pc first before uploading it to dropbox.

I assume it's the same on a PC but on the mac it adds a new "drive" to your computer that auto syncs.

I have a folder with FugDup and we share media files. It's the only thing i've used it for but it works great.

For larger storage and more serious applications though I would always recommend http://put.io

looks pretty neat as well dom, its the same on the PC as on mac, I have a mac and i think it works like a charm, simply love it

Ohhhwww! I think you guys mean a cloud storage!!!

But i think its better to create you own FTP server, its quite simple really and there are tons of tutorials scattering around the net, and better yet, youtube(for convenience). Just got mine setup'ed last year

But if you really like to store limited data through net for FREE, you could use, dropbox, Megauploads, mediafire, Livemesh, and other stuff, i forgot where's my list, oh well =/.

I know some are already mentioned so please dont quote me, i'm aware of that.

I can't understand how people can possible NOT trust dropbox. It's a couple of years old now and heck, even larger companies use Dropbox. We used it at our school tons of times, and I use it for my images, videos, notes etc. It's always handy to have it around, even on your smartphone

Dropbox is by far the best program you can get if you want to share files with yourself or friends in a longer term. Besides, you can choose to only share a few files and everybody can login on the same account, as well as they can have their own - it's simply brilliant.

Try using Google docs if you have multiple people editing at once.
