Can I become a merchant?

So, lets say I want to make some extra money on the side but I don't want to spend to much time on it.
Is it actually possible to use what I learned in SRO ( buy low, sell high) to make some $$$ on eBay?
Has anyone here actually made money from buying and reselling stuff online?

I want to try but I don't know how to start.

It's possible, one of my half bro's does it to get some extra cash. Best bet is to start out with 100% deals, stuff you know for sure from that they will sell for more. Or maybe stuff that gets worth more over time?

Yeah, but I dont recommend it.

I sold TF2 items ( virtual hats and items, that you get in game for free ) for real life money via paypal. Basically, you get money for free, and if you do it well enough, you can gain more by buying low and selling high ( more stuff to sell with the good trades you do )

I dont do it anymore, because I dont like giving away my information ( email address ); so it was free money while it lasted.

Yes, it's possible. You will probably need to do some research first, and at some point you'll probably loose some to a bad deal too.

But yeah, it is possible. One of my online friends started making a living from buying and selling ebay things. Now he has his own online store. He did use a lot of time on research though. Took him like a year to get everything running completely. By then he knew EXACTLY how much items are worth, and how much profit he needed to get in order to keep it running.

My supervisor at work does this all the time, he makes quite a bit of cash. He buys TV units that people are selling really cheaply, for anywhere between $1-$10. If required if fixes them up, sands them back etc. A lot of the time he cuts the TV units in half to make units for LCD TV's. Anyway, he says he puts in only a few hours work and sells them out side of house for around $150 each. He takes on about 1 or 2 a week and now he's branched off into other kinds of furniture as well.

Find a need in the market, develop the skills to satisfy that need and go for it. Do that and you will succeed.

Use your local community as well. Craigslist has a Free section and depending on where you live, you can get like new couches and other stuff for free. Also can find a lot of stuff cheap on there and sell to a wider market on ebay.

Don't get into the replica selling business unless you want your Ebay account closed along with your paypal... might even get in trouble with your bank also.

Also check pawn shops too, sometimes you can find some hidden gems =) but usually not, but you never know.

You will struggle to make money from ebay.

They've gone way downhill in the past few years.
