Being Positive/Negative, Expectations.
I find myself to be a rather negative person most of the time, I usually/accidentally make up excuses for good stuff that happens to me instead of just being happy it did, and I also have very low expectations, I think it's some sort of defence mechanism not to get hurt when things go wrong, but these two things combined can sometimes give you a slap in the face when it comes to your confidence.
So, what type of person are you? Positive or Negative? How are you expectations?
If you have found a balance between them, how did you do it?

I'm a very negative person, but because of it I feel that I'm much more satisfied with my life than someone who expects more and doesn't get it.

Yes this is how I feel.
And yeah I consider myself realist but others don't seem to look at it the same way.

Re: Being Positive/Negative, Expectations.
I'd like to say I'm a pretty positive person who views sadness from a neutrality standpoint (if that actually makes any sense at all). We all have time when we view things in a positive light and we all have times when we view things in a negative life. You can't live without one of the extremes, the whole reason we embrace and cherish the happier times is because know the agony of sadness. It's a matter of comparison, one simply can't exist without the other.
Usually I'm a pretty happy and positive person. I have a lot of self belief and firmly believe that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. And 99% of the time, it's true. I work hard and challenge myself to which I gain a fair bit of happiness out of. But at the same time I know that sadness, failure and disappointment will occur. I do make mistakes, things don't go my way all the time and people really do fuck me over a lot. So whilst these moments are never too enjoyable, I accept their existence and just do my best to work through them.
Normally I'm the loud, crazy and eccentric guy. I laugh a lot and make others do the same. Whether it be at work, with my friends or even at home, I always have people ask me why I'm so happy all the time. I just say it's easier to live life with a smile on your face than to be depressed about every little thing that goes wrong. Of course, I do have my serious moments and have been known to converse in some pretty in-depth D&M's (I seem to express that side of myself quite frequently here on SRF, I guess I'd rather vent my opinions where no one can see them than in person). But ultimately it's all a part of the balance of life.

Would you agree, or at least comply, that I can get similar results with a sense of nihilism or "passive nihilism" if you prefer. It just seems much more effective in terms of understanding to remove yourself and view things in a more third person value rather than the equilibrium you promoted in your third paragraph. Then again, to contradict myself, I guess to have that bias understanding--because you've suffered, loved, hated, enjoyed as well helps you understand another but that would mean having to morph yourself to that persons beliefs. If only for a second.
So I guess what I'm trying to say,agreeing with you because to me it seems you are saying the same thing but rather indirectly and lengthy, is that it seems kind of childish to say; " I'm a super honky dory positive/negative/realist person! That's just how I view everything all the time every hours of the day,". Which, if true, would make you an incredibly dull person with very little layers to your personality.
So what kind of person am I? I couldn't possibly tell you because I haven't lived long enough to know myself.
..and now I end my post with the king of all that is nihilistic;

Re: Being Positive/Negative, Expectations.
A realist......I used to be somewhat negative...and looked at positive people and wonder what drugs their on....tryin to fool themselves....Then I realize just how much life experiences can shape your views and that its best to step back and observe and try to limit or avoid having your perception shaped by external factors (which is dam near impossible). I'm trying not to look at the good or bad in things but to merely observe and acknowledge.
