How does studying work?
Do you take notes?
Do you reread awhole chapter?
If its a science or math do you just study equations and skip the fluff?
Do you wait for the last minute?

Procastination is my main rule when studying... When I finally get to it I usually do some late homework and read like a monster.

To sound ego, I don't know how to study, I never learned how to do it since I never had. Well I'll probs get fcked over later in my study but for now I just pay attention in the classes I got and in the last day for the test I read what I have to study and that usually lands me a bit over average of a grade.
For math I never studied, I either was able to do it or I wasn't.

I almost never take notes. When I do, it's usually just ideas, and not many of them, in fact.
Before important tests, I read the whole chapter, usually just once, but very attentively.
When I study math, computer science or physics, chemistry or whatever science, I never try to memorize formulas or equations. I try to comprehend the mechanism as deeply as possible. After I've done that, remembering and using the formulas is easy, almost trivial.
When I'm programming, I never write code more than 25% of the time. I usually spend the rest of the time researching and understanding the problem at hand better.
And yes, usually, I study just when the shit is about to hit the fan.
So far, it has worked out very well for me. I'm always in the top 5% of my class, and I ranked 17th out of 100 in the national maths competition.

Biology & Chemistry: Read the Chapter. Answer the "Q-Questions". Read my notes. Pwn at the test.
I get a lot of compliments on my notes. They are clean and straightforward. Bitches love it

I pay attention in class and do the classwork assignments.
I don't study outside of school and I usually get above average grades.

It's important to realize what is important and what is not. For example, when you're reading/learning a (very) long text, you have to find out how the text has been constructed. Find the most important keywords, learn them and then read a little about them. By ''a little'' I mean enough to understand the links between the different important keywords. This is the most important step, because this step not only enables you to understand the text but also helps you to remember the meaning of the keywords. And if you know the meaning of the keywords better, you can also make the links between the keywords easier.
If you try this method and keep doing it for some time, I guarantee you that studying will be a piece of cake. I've been using this method for more than 6 years and it has always worked for me. It's efficient, easy and doesn't take much time. I now can read a text and unconsciously detect the important keywords and understand the links between.
edit: I forgot one very important thing, pay good attention in class. You need this to make sure you have enough background information on the subject. You won't get any background information from the method I use, becausde you will only focus on the most important things.

I don't think I've ever seriously studied for anything. Most stuff I usually study the night before/day of, and on the rare occasion two nights before.
For important/tough classes I just try to pay attention in class and understand the concepts...everything seems to work out nicely for me.
Because of this I lack real motivation to study a week before an exam and things like that, so any course pertaining to memorization I'll avoid like the plague.

I take notes in class. But I never, ever, look over them. Mainly because unlike some of us here, *Yes Ex, I'm talking about you*, I don't take all that neat of notes.
I basically just wait until the last second, Cram like hell, and get that A.

When i was in usa, i never studied, never did my HW, and just never really cared. I got As and Bs, from everything, never a C or worse on a report card, only 1 in 4th and 1 in 3rd grad ebecause i didnt know english that well. It was good times, just never doing anything for school, i memorized everything the teacher said, i only had to read stuff once, and id get an A, but now, in Czech Republic, its a lot harder, i have to study a lot and im nearly failing math lol...and since i was in USA from 3-12/13 years....czech isnt really my first language, that may be also why im doing so bad...

Depends on material. 1-3 days prior to exam date for heavy review. Study throughout the semester. Power points / hand outs as guidelines. Read books, take notes (paraphrase after reading 1-2 pages --- not copying), read notes again after). If the exam is really that important, then I take practice exams and we do group reviews. It's always easiest for me to check questions based on State board exams.
I'm good at memorizing but understanding the material is much more imperative in some courses. I passed my prerequisites like Anatomy/Physiology classes with straight As but pharmacology, for example, demands a lot more.
Anyway..gonna go back to extra reviewing. I got an exam in 3 hours.

Squirt wrote:How does studying work?

No, never because I'm not able to listen and take notes at the same time, unless they're on the blackboard.
Squirt wrote:Do you reread awhole chapter?
As in..read and just after that read it again? Hell no..no need to. Just read and comprehend what it's saying and you should be fine.
Squirt wrote:If its a science or math do you just study equations and skip the fluff?
Usually no, not really. I do learn equations and stuff, but besides this, I try to understand the mechanism and the basis of the whole thing I'm studying. It's extremely important in subject such as physics where you cannot simply learn the formulas, but you've also got to understand what you're doing.
Squirt wrote:Do you wait for the last minute?
If last minute means afternoon before, then yes.
Plus, I don't like maths.

Read book, underline stuff that sounds important, rewrite them on a piece of paper... then sleep on it, then read it.

in class, yes
Do you reread awhole chapter?
depends on the subject, did it for english or other subjects where i have to write a freaking essay for an answer otherwise my notes usually suffice
If its a science or math do you just study equations and skip the fluff?
depends on the chapter
Do you wait for the last minute?
oh hell yeah! except for my final exams in college, for most other exams i mostly only study 1 day before...sometimes only 3-4 hours b4 the exam!

Procrastinating now just means more effort needed later on.
Having a good core foundation knowledge sets you up for further future academic pursuits of your interest.
Enjoyment is a key motivator, greater than the cliche last minute predicament.
Do not limit yourself to the expected level when studying.
Going beyond and learning further fosters interest and thus helps motivate.

No notes.
No studying.
No reading.
Somewhat paying attention in class.
Cheating off other peoples homework.
Procrastinate on assignments the night before.
-Day of test-
Stare at questions and think to myself "Lol this is easy"
-Day of results-
Shove test scores at friends who did study.
Brag about how I didn't study, and still did better than them.
Done.
^ My method for taking AP classes. Got a 3 on my AP World History last year, while barely doing shit. Feels good man. Its all about memorizing shit and understanding why.
tl;dr - Photographic memory
