Spoiler!

So today I was at a funeral, and someone had Epilepsy for like 2 hours, lots of men were trying to hold him, someone was trying to get his tongue out of his teeth, and some of his family members said that he should lay on his side, everyone was coming with a crazy idea, some people tried to cure him with Quran :/, Ignorance filled everyone even me.

So now I'm doing research about this, wanna know if any of you ever faced something like this and what did you do?

Was in a shop once, when a guy got a Epilepsy attack. It is really weird, you feel yourself so powerless.

Roll the person on his side
If he/she lays on his/her back, he could "swallow" his tongue and choke

Try to prevent that he/she bites his tongue
DON'T put ur fingers in his mouth to push his tongue away
If he/she bites down, he/she could bite off ur fingers
Don't put something very hard in his mouth either (he/she will break his/her teeth on it)

Call an ambulance/doctor, if even it was a small seizure

No, his family said doctors will do nothing and it's only about time, but never expected it to be that long.

Wow dude, a 2 hr epilepsy attack will kill someone. I'm assuming he came out of it if even for a few minutes. Long term = sad shit there.

In Highschool, during English class we were working on the computer, he had a Epileptic Seizure.

He was trying to arch his back a lot, so what we did was i held him at his neck, trying to keep it straight, and not allowing him to arch too far back.

Rolled him to his side so he didn't swallow his tongue and kept his Airway open, then placed a pencil across his mouth to keep him from biting down on his tongue.

At the same time my friend was hugging his legs trying to keep them from convulsing around, sent someone to grab the school nurse and just waited there.

But yeah, the Most important thing is, the Tongue, the Neck and the Breathing.

He was moving his head really fast and every part of his body was shaking, and every about 10 minutes his movement was getting slower then back stronger, I didn't knew anything about Epilepsy then so all I did was holding his head from hitting the floor.

The seizure lasted for more than 10 mins and you didnt call an Ambulance? Way bad! I know that your family didnt want an Ambulance, but Seizures lasting for a number of minutes can be VERY bad

Oh and I never saw someone having one yet, I did know about the side thing and keeping him free of things around him so he can't hurt himself but that's it. 2 hours damn x.X He should get a dog, dogs got a feel for it IIRC.

Not my family neither I knew him but he they was with me at that funeral, and after every seizure he was getting it again after a moment, I knew it's over when he opened his eyes because all the time before that i was seeing only part of his sclera.
everybody was telling them to get a doctor or an ambulance but they didn't want to.

I was wondering, where they preaching from the Quran to him, hitting him in the head and tell him to get his act together or did they use it to fan him some air?

I was in church when a girl got epilepsy attack. Idk what exactly happened, it was a long time ago, like 5 years ago. They were trying to get her tounge out of her teeth, as u said and they called the doc ofc. Fortunately it lasts only a few minutes till the doc arrived. They put her in to the doc's car. That's all I know. Next day I saw her shopping, so no serious problems.

By reciting Quran verses on him, for religious people that's very serious.
But in fact it was.... useless.

Yes they said he's having this seizure since he was a kid and they know his condition, and it can't be stopped by medicine.

It may take long minutes until the ambulance arrives, there is a thing called "first-aid" which can be done by laymen and helps a lot in such situations.

Protecting their head is very important as well, during the seizure you should get down on your knees at the patient's head - as far from the arms as possible - and put your hands under their head and keep it softly but never keep it down.

The best thing to do is to lie them to their side (recovery position). Try not to restrict their movements as much as possible and stay with the person until the seizure subsides. Go close to their head and try to cushion it. Remove any obstructions near the victim and never move him/her to another location unless it's really necessary. Never place anything in their mouth - ESPECIALLY YOUR FINGER.

Oh, and fucking call 911 just in case. The Quran was never approved by the FDA to treat seizures.

Well I don't got any personal experiences with it, but my mom had to work once with someone who had Epilepsy. She said that you have to put something in his mouth so he don't swallow his tongue. You can put like a piece of cloth in his mouth. Don't stuff his mouth with it, just make sure that his tongue is like locked with it so (s)he won't choke.

You also need to check if he isn't bringing any medicine with him. Most people here who have Epilepsy, carry a medicine with them in case of a seizure, which needs to be injected when they have one.

Also put him on his side, down on the floor and make sure the area around him is clear. You don't want him to hit anything during his seizure. You can try to restrain him a bit, but sometimes this is to hard cause of the size of the person. Then it's just important that you make sure that his neck stays fine and he isn't bumping his head or something.

And if the seizure lasts minutes then definitely call an ambulance.
