With this browser opened my CPU temperature is 87 degrees C according to EVEREST. This sounds very high to me so I was wondering if this is normal. My CPU is an AMD anthon 64 X2 6000+ ~3.0Ghz....

my gpu hits that temp during load, your cpu definitely shouldn't be hitting that high.

that is fairly hot for just having a browser open, i would suggest looking into some cooling options.

You will have a lot of dust on/inside your CPU's heatsink and fan. Clean it.

It does have a lot of dust. Is it alright to clean it with water as long as it is allowed to dry completely before being put back on the CPU?

That should be possible honestly but I wouldn't try it. Use a vacuüm cleaner (or a dustmachine thingy), just make sure you don't slap the components too hard. For the rest use a brush, ugh not sure how to call it...like the thing you paint with, a brush I guess to brush away the dust. I had the problem with my laptop, it went from like 80-85 back to 35-40 after I cleaned it from dust.

Yeah I wouldn't do it with water, use canned air/air compressor or a vacuum cleaner

Never use vacuum cleaner, only use canned air

Even if it was dust, that seems way too high unless you live somewhere very hot.
If after you clean it the temp stays high (>60) you may want to reseat your heatsink/fan.
Also I'd advise checking your temps in the bios and with another program just in case this scare is a fluke.

dust out your computer and reapply the thermal paste with artic silver
mine runs around 20 idle and gets up 30 during normal use. prime95 gets it to 40 though. all C

Mine 20-30°C.
You must be playing games alot and left you pc on too often.
Apply some thermal grease if yours is dry

ya sure, gotta love blowing stuff up. One of the reasons I

killzone 2, u can figuratively feel the explosion

Most CPU's automatically shut down these days if it gets too hot, so i wouldn't worry that much, assuming its configured that way and the OP hasn't changed it ofc...

I cleaned the heatsink and fan and reapplied thermal paste to the CPU. It now idles at 38 degrees Celsius and reaches 53 degrees Celsius while playing games. Thanks guys!
