Most of the top military officers have been saying DADT should be removed. The main opponents are congressmen appealing to the worse sides of people so they can keep their votes.

why does this even matter when your in the army. If A wants to serve then he can and if B wants to serve then he can, etc etc

-united states seeks to delay the ban while the decision is appealed
-government court papers state that if immediately put into action, serious ramifications will follow, mainly harming public interest in a strong, effective military while also being enormously disruptive and time-consuming during wartime overseas (paraphrased)
-president obama supports the repeal of the law, stating that the policy will end on his watch
