http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11332515Seriously? The irony.
"Even in our own lifetimes we can recall how Britain and her leaders stood against a Nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate God from society and denied our common humanity to many, especially the Jews, who were thought unfit to live.
"As we reflect on the sobering lessons of atheist extremism of the 20th century, let us never forget how the exclusion of God, religion and virtue from public life leads ultimately to a truncated vision of man and of society and thus a reductive vision of a person and his destiny."

I thought Hitler thought he was doing the work of God? I could be wrong, it's been 7 years at least since I studied anything to do with WWII.

That and he was part of the Hitler Youth program. =)
Not to mention the allegations against the Vatican's role of covering up the genocide.

I believe in God... but I cannot stress how much I disagree with almost everything to do with the way the Catholics believe.

Yep. I used to go to a Catholic school so I know exactly what you mean.
I guess tolerance of belief only applies to those who are affiliated with a certain religion. Silly Catholics =p

but why secret sun god worship is Farking awesome. praise helios.
anywho. hitler wasnt doing gods work. if he EVER said he was, it was because he was aware of the power that religion held over the masses. not because he really thought it. he was doing the work to rebuild the strength of Germany. he was a hardcore nationalist. he believed the jews financially undermined the efforts of the first world war that he was in, and that they were a race of parasites that needed to be exterminated.
i read the first volume of main kamf hes f
ucked up. i mean nationality is one thing, but he is ridiculous.

The funny ironic thing about his beliefs that the jews were parasites was; if he had the jews, there would have been a good chance they'd have made the atomic bomb before the U.S. thus probably blowing half the U.S. away then going after Russia.

While I don't agree with what the pope said at all, if you're going to mention something about his past that you saw in the article, make sure you mention the whole thing.
He joined the Hitler Youth at 14, as was required of young Germans at the time.

The knowledge came elsewhere. Found out about it around the same time he became the Pope. Still, no one knows what his
real story is or what he had to do as a member (possibly killed a couple Jews here and there, or maybe not - who knows). Or what his true feelings about joining were at that time. Of course if he did actually buy into the anti-Semitic propaganda, I highly doubt that he would admit it.
Either way, it does seem pretty hypocritical.

I was waiting for Chris Hansen to appear somewhere.
(Popemobile stops)
Hansen: "Mr. Benedict" *enters Popemobile* "Please, don't get up. Have a seat."
Disappointing Papal visit.

I went to a Catholic school and remember learning about how Hitler was a theist.
In WWI, they explained, he felt God was protecting him because he had a special duty.
I don't remember exactly what happened, but a couple times he got lucky and he felt it was proof for divine intervention.

I think most people got it. Just not enough to elicit any worthy response. But if it makes you feel special, sure =)
