Pitbulls and I am considering taking them so for dog owners is there anything you can share with me, expenses, needs, vaccines, etc ? I have 0 concern regarding their training but the rest I would like to hear about, thanks in advance to those who can help and these will be family dogs if I do end up taking them.

Feed them only their dog food and the occasional doggy snack.

If you have leather furniture make sure you smack the hell out of them if you catch them chewing on it! I had a 1.5k couch turn into a 400 dollar couch over night ><' Pits can be some of the most stubborn dogs... or at least my roommates pit puppy was...

Also depending on where you are you can expect to pay around 100 bucks per dog for vaccines. Unless you want them to die from heart worms 2 years down the road :soosad:

Don't hit your dogs either. There are better ways to teach them.

There isn't anything wrong with smacking them on the ass if they are chewing on your shit. IMO. If you have a better way-do tell.

That is your opinion. No I don't have a better way, I'm no dog trainer.

Here's the thing, I mean I can understand if its a child, they at least can begin to understand you at an early age(don't think my daughter is going to chew on my furniture anyways but ya never know.), but with a puppy if you don't make sure they have consequences for doing something-like lets say tearing the leather off the back of your couch- they aren't going to stop. It's not one of those things you can just not give them a treat for if they don't sit or stand. Also it's not beating them, its just a good firm smack on the nose or the ass. They're your best friend, they forgive you! :sohappy:

Other method would be sending them outside but that really only works for potty training.

You smack a dog like you would your kid. It's not about the physical force or trying to inflict harm.

It's showing disapproval and most importantly, stopping the dog from doing what it's doing.

^This reminds me. I'm kinda for corporal punishment(I have a little girl so wouldn't do it anyways) and my wife is way against it. But when she was released from the hospital after giving birth, we were walking out and these two little black boys were running around. They couldn't have been older than 4-5 and their mom came along and pulled a stick off a near by tree and started smacking the littlest ones ass, she musta hit him about 15x. My wife about lost it.

I don't know about doing that to your dog, but a good smack that makes it stop should suffice. Also when you do this make sure to say something like NO! STOP! or w/e so later you can just use that word without the smack.

My pops was more of an ear puller. Both with me and my pup but it worked because now every time I try to do something dumb my left ear goes numb, I mean I still do it, but you know...numb. :sohappy:

Also it stopped my dogs nasty habit of gnawing at the bottom of the sofa. Take from that what you will.

This. Punishing a dog is not inherently a bad thing.

You probably dont need to take them to the vet too often, every dog is different however

expenses, im not sure, cause I get my knowledge from family

but it shouldnt be way off the charts, just make sure you do needed checkups and etc... its just like a human

You don't know much about pitbulls do you? There actually very nice dogs, they are just easy to train into fighting dogs.

To me they're not adorable. Not because of what you're thinking of.

I think he's talking about looks. I don't really like pits myself. They can be good dogs, but even good ones have been known to turn on... babies?.. A lot of towns in the US require you to buy insurance if you own a pit as well.

If I was going to get horse-sized dogs, I would get a tasteful breed: siberian huskies, german shepherds, dobermans, etc.
