So my hacked, first generation, iphone just gave up the ghost and died. So now I need to buy a new phone. Only I don't know what AT&T phones are good and which ones suck.
Halp?

I would just get a free touch screen phone like the solstice and buy
another phone that uses AT&T as a provider, or an unlocked phone later on
if you want one, so that you'd have a backup phone

How would I get it for free?
I'm on my parents cell phone plan. Does that mean I have to re-sign a new 2 year contract just because I'm getting a new phone? *is pretty sure that he doesn't have too*.
Oh and after having an Iphone I'm not sure if any other touch screen phone will satisfy me. I like phones like this...

The Dell Streak atm is still locked though isn't it?
So yah, Samsung Captivate is ur best option with the 4" AMOLED and Hummingbird, of course hardware isn't everything, but trust me, its worth it. Or if you can get your hands on a Nexus One AT&T Version (they arn't selling them atm)

I was under the impression that black berry's = fail. Lies?
I like the impact's keyboard but it's kinda fugly imo...
Oh and I'd prefer a phone that was easy to text with. Granted, I had an iphone. Texting on that was hell.

Lies, they're just behind the curve.
The Streak is not SIM-unlocked, so you can't take it to T-Mobile, but that is not an issue, me thinks.

Eh, well it was my older brothers whilest he was up in MT. He had to hack it in order to get it to work out there. It was given to me once he got the 3G or 3GS, I can't remember. So I've had it for about a year now.

If you like phone with that sort of style, go for a N97. I have a N97 mini and I've been more than satisfied with it. Sure, it may not be as high-tech as some of these newer smart-phones, but I think it's pretty good for what I use it for. The camera is good, it has a nice simple GUI, the touch screen is responsive yet it still maintain a physical keyboard and it just works. If your not looking for something with higher end network capabilities, then it wouldn't be a bad choice at all.

If anything, go with T-mobile (cheaper and roams on AT&T) and get the mytouch slide, thats what I have, probably one of the best android phones I have ever had and used

You can type on the keyboard and swype is nice. Also it has android 2.1 and will have froyo by the end of the year. It also has a customized sense ui. The genious button works, people say it doesnt, but those are for the ones who can't talk right. Its also good to use with Gameboid. This also a HTC phone. Though one disadvantage I really dwell on is how it feels, its pure plastic and it drives me nuts, but other than its nice, and the new update improved battery life too

Well when I go out in some areas like country or some mountain states, If I'm not on a T-Mobile Network I'm either on AT&T or Cingular, which both have free phone and text service roaming, though I don't know if data is free during roam. It just helps since it extends on to the AT&T network, so it makes it as good as AT&T coverage and for free (except for maybe data). You can get a Unlimited Talk+Texting+Data for yourself for under $100, which I know is far cheaper in the long run than other services, and I know the the mytouch slide is around $129-179 on contract, maybe even cheaper now.
