What's the mindfack?

... mostly that matter acts like energy. but also that it changes its course of action when observed.

So, quantum physics...same stuff as when I went to college, or is that new?

At the quantum level, simply observing or measuring a particle changes the way the particle behaves. Like if you try to measure a single photon of light, the photon will destroy itself and emit energy.

It can still be amazing whether you learned it when you were 3 years old or have never seen it before. What is this a dick-measuring contest? :palm:

That a particle acts as a particle and a wave at the same time and is essentially spread across it's wave function (which is actually itself) until observation. The real mindfuck here is, "what is considered 'observation'?

fixed. but same thing in sorts

Particle and wave at the same time. AKA, spread out and at a single point all at the same time.

No, it's called 'wave-particle duality' for a reason.

If you wanted to fix my paragraph you should have said 'matter' acts as a particle and a wave. Or more correctly, takes on the properties of a wave and particle simultaneously.

I just love how it changes just by being observed. I've learned this as well but it still amazes me. I enjoy quantum physics, it really baffles people, and is s very interesting topic to discuss.

Also, can anyone yet explain how and why it changes itself being observed. Your really observing it when you your watching, but somehow it knows when you are watching close!? :sohappy:

I think matter 'knows' through the interaction of other matter with it. Conscious and unconscious observation causes the wave function to collapse to 1. But, to me, doesn't that mean that all wavefunctions are collapsed to 1, meaning, only under strict laboratory experiments would a particle not have any prior interactions and exist as a wave function.

(I want to take a university level course on this, would be extremely interesting. This and relativity.)
