Program to design a house?
I wanna try to design my dream house. It's just for fun though, but I'm looking for a decent program that's made for designing houses and is pretty easy to use.
And not like Sims, although I haven't played Sims 3 so idk if that's actually any good, but I doubt it.

I know Auto Cad is used for like the blueprint for houses and crap, but then you have to apply it to like 3D Max or some shit

Auto CaD.
CaD-CaM Pro.
Those are 2 programs we use in our design suites on Campus.

Sims 3 has gone a long way from the original one. It still keeps the blocked/grid placement of objects but it should be enough for whatever you are planning to do. Check out some of the building videos on YouTube:

You can always just use
The Sims 1

and
The Sims 2

if you want to go cheaper than the Sims 3

AutoCAD as previous posters said. But you might have to take a class to actually know how to use it.

I did this at school last year, and used Google Sketchup. Its not that hard to use. This term, we can use Autocad if we want, I think I will, so yeah, either Autocad or Sketchup. If you wanna do like blueprints and shit, you can use Microstation V8 aswell.

Re: Program to design a house?
Alright thanks for your replies guys. AutoCAD isn't really easy to use, and wasn't really made to design houses. I'm actually gonna give the Sims 3 a go. The video really made it look like I can do a lot of customization. Especially elevation, I want to build a house on the side of a mountain.
Ok thanks guys. (I'll also check out google sketch)

Re: Program to design a house?
There are a lot of Interior Design house designs out there, not just AutoCAD, that are cheap and easy to use.

I have this one, it is pretty easy to use as well.

Is that just for interior design or also building a house?
Btw does anyone know how I stop the normal mode Sims and just buy a piece of land and start building? Cheats or whatever? I don't want to play the game until I have money or something.

Sims 3 is very complicated, but you'll get used to it. But......that's why i recommended sims1 and sims 2, you can also use cheats to do elevations, or use the SHOVEL.

Re: Program to design a house?
I think there's a lack of in depth explanation for Sims.
I started entering cheats for money and just started building, but it gave me no pointers whatsoever. I also can't really do what I want to do so I'm not sure if I should keep on using Sims. Maybe I should bite the bullet and start learning AutoCAD
This is what I got so far:
Obviously it still needs a lot of work, but I was focusing on the general parts of the building. Like the glass 2 story living room. I don't want there to be so much beams, I don't want there to be anything between the beams if I need to use beams, I want to use glass all around and all the way up to the roof. Can I do that? I think the program is just not built for this type of customization. I'm always stuck in grids and preset stuff.
Also, the location is shit. I want to have a better location. How do I do that?
Thanks for your help

Re: Program to design a house?
looks complicated
Maybe I should just accept my limitations when it comes to these kind of programs, and then accept the limitations I face in the programs that I actually can use.
