Well you WERE in the biking lane, maybe he shouted "WATCH OUT"
Also since he was biking pretty fast at you and you punched him, i'm almost sure that he got hurt just as much if not more than you.

so you assumed because this guy - (who was in the bike lane as he should be, was riding torwards YOU, -someone who was running in the "bike" lane, that he was going to attack you and steal your ipod... LOOOOL,
if anything he probably thought that you had intentionally gotten in the bike lane to attack HIM and steal his bike, so he speeds up in efforts to maybe scare you off the path a little bit..
but you hit him in the face as he rides past you and your running past him , knocking him off his bike, giving him a bloody nose,... and you. walk away with some minor cuts on your knuckles and ask if YOUR the victim in this situation???
is this thread for real ?

What I don't get is the thought of riding a bike into someone, rather fast, as a sense of "attacking" someone ....lols, just lol, doesn't sound like the most logical means of kicking the shit outta someone or going about mugging 'em ...
like crim was saying, you were in the bike lane... probably told your ass to get the **** outta the way...lol

If you hit the guy in the face you should have at least taken his bike.

Ok I understand how this looks bad.. ****
you guys don't know the bikelane, but it's pretty big. It's two ways and pretty wide. I was walking on this lane for like 30 seconds already and we could both clearly see each other on beforehand. He changed his course towards me. In the Netherlands we drive right and I was running right he was biking right. He HAD to change his course quite a bit to go to my part of the lane. It's not like I came out of nowhere and he had to dodge me. He clearly saw me, and when he shouted it wasn't near collision but he was like 5m away.
aah **** these first reactions are not good

btw, I used to live like 10km away from school and I always biked. There were these **** that would do dare games by going straight for me on the bike, that's why I associate him biking into me with like an attack

dude you punched some guy in the face, happens all the time, its not like you broke his car or stole his bike

(and even then you wouldn't have to go to the police ~,~)

I agree, I think the only crime you have committed in this incident is not stealing his bike and paddling away with it

Well I edited it out because.. idk I was going a bit crazy last night.
Long story short: I was running late at night, some guy ran his bike into me on purpose and in the last second I punched him in the face in a reflex. We both were down and I was scared cause I thought he was going to **** me up, but then I saw that he was bleeding from mouth and nose and that he wasn't really a thug. He called me a racist (he was black) said he was gonna call the cops on me, I didn't know what to do and I ran away.
Because I was running on the bikelane when it happened the first replies make me look like a douche... BUT I went to the police this morning and the same guy was there, except he wasn't there because I punched him. He was there because later that night he was starting fights in the clubs and tried to steal someone's cellphone and the cops arrested him.
Since it was his word vs mine they were leaning to my side of the story and if I wanted I could press charges and they would investigate this further. Since I still wasn't 100% sure if it was the right thing to do to punch him I didn't press charges and in 'return' the other guy also didn't.
So in the end I don't think I was wrong in defending myself (cause imo I wasn't attacking him, I was reacting to a guy running his bike into me) but you can never be right in punching someone in the face.
I went to the police-doctor for my knuckles and it turns out you don't get those injuries from punching someone in the face, but from scraping your hand past concrete or something. I guess when I fell my hand scraped over the road or whatever. (At first I was freaked out because my hands were busted and I was thinking "wtf have I done to him?")
So yeah yesterday I was a bit panicked because I had never been in a fight before and then the first replies made me really unsure about what I had to do, so I decided to remove the post so no people would mess with my head anymore and I went straight to the cops.

Ok.. But what I don't get is why you PUNCHED him in to the face

^if you feel something slamming into you from the side, people would naturally feel like they are being mugged, and I would definitely swing my fist at whatever crashed into me. he did right in not taking any chances.
but yeah wtf you doing in the bike lane? thats like running on the highway and expecting not to get run over by a car.

Guess he tried to give the biker some backwards momentum to slow him down or something.

Well I had explained it all in the first post but that's gone now. I was in the bike lane because there was construction on the pavement. Either way, it's perfectly normal for people to run on the bike lane as well. It's not exclusive to people biking.
The construction part was like 50m long so I didn't pop out of nowhere, we both saw each other well in advance and there was proper street lighting as well so everything was clear.
So enough with 101 questions, the police sorted it out. I wasn't wrong in anything I did according to the police. Him driving his bike into me was enough to warrant an action of self defense, would you not feel threatened if someone clearly rode his bike into you on purpose?
