Stacked from floor to ceiling, the above are just some of the DVD burners that were churning out tens of thousands of illegal films in the biggest pirate operation so far smashed by police in Britain.

A total of 420 burners that could copy DVDs worth £1 million per week were seized in a raid in Southall, West London, and five arrests were made.

Another four arrests were made at a printing factory that was producing colour covers for recent hits including Slumdog Millionaire, Watchmen, The Reader and Gran Torino.

A million covers, 60,000 burned and packed DVDs, 38,000 blank DVDs and dozens of metal printing plates were also seized in the raids by City of London Police.

"This operation provides further evidence of the scale of organised criminal networks involved in DVD counterfeiting and how big a problem is has become," said detective chief inspector Dave Service.

"The proceeds gained are massive and can be used to fund other criminal operations, while substantial damage is inflicted on the film industry, and on the UK film industry in particular."

The raid was welcomed by the Federation Against Copyright Theft
