So comp got shot, died the next day. Can't even get it to load up windows now.
New comp. Same price.
A) 4 gig mem, 1 gig ded graphics card.(NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M) Asus
B) 6 gig mem, 1 gig ded graphics card.(ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470) HP
Don't really care about the hd size, also both are running @ around 2.26 gHz.
Edit:
Woops, I mixed up the cards. Added a poll... be easier.
Down to those two.
Edit: dam spelling.
Both have Intel i5 processors. Pretty sure the HP is running 7 64b.

A has...by far the best graphics card in it.
Easy choice.

6gig? We need that much already?
I thought 4 was still enough. I'd pick A

Not if you're doing major video editing.

I take good care of my Gateway laptop.
It cost me $600 less than it's HP equivalent.
I don't give a shit about laptop brand names..I reformat the computer and the specs are the same. Any damage due to shitty parts gets covered by the warranty.
but while we're on the topic, if it's brand everyone cares about you should go with a Mac.

You should of not mentionned the brands. Its crazy how there's hate for every single brand. I own a Acer laptop and my friend just went "lollll".Don't know bout their quality but works fine for me. Everyone had that "bad experience" with that "one brand".

It's actually proven that Acer has by far the most defects on its laptops, especially the screens. They did a research and Acer was by far on top of that list and most people I know who have/had an Acer laptop, really had problems with it.
Anyway, I'd go with B. Both graphic cards would be good enough for me and 6 gig ram would as well be easy when you have to run a lot of things.

d. all of the above!
anyways i;m confused the poll and the selection you posted, it doesnt match. poll #2 says 1gig cpu?

Wouldn't you need vista/win7 64bit to even be able to use that 6gig of ram? o.O
Lol I suck at pc's and shit but 6gig seems a bit too much.

He probably meant gpu and not cpu.

any 64-bit OS will do it

Dual-boot with Linux-64bit, mang!
edit: my vote is A. HP have decent servers not so much on home PC's. Asus is overpriced but at least have decent quality as long as you don't get the stuff PC Chips makes.

Yea it's pretty much a no-brainer now. Unless you're doing hardcore coding that requires more than 4gb of ram..Even then sometimes having the GPU instead would benefit you more for graphical based coding =\

Is 4gb really enough though? I bought my labtop almost 3 years ago and it already had 2 gigs in it. The one before that, 6 years ago now, had 512mb. I figured 3-4x increase every 3 years was a good rule of thumb.
I figured with all the new stuff now, 4 gigs might be the old 2 gigs.

haha definitely not
I have 8gb ram and it's very, very unnecessary. I rarely ever use 4 even with windows glitches (more ram you have, the more it uses). Maybe if I'm playing sc2 and aion and have 20 tabs in chrome open..but I doubt it. Only time I've even come close to 8gb was having 4 virtual machines running to multi-sro =\
my laptop has 4gb and it runs great. Just bought it this year too

I picked the second option by accident, I read it fast and chose that one. I was like "HP 6 gig mem, 1 gig gpu"...."WAIT SHIT, HP?!"

Yea sro takes like 1.5 gig RAM when I run it, and thats with normal settings, you will probably not need 6, though I think it makes your computer go faster if you have more? Not 100% sure on that.

Exactly this. It's always those "polls" and "researchs". There's those kind of "research" for every single brand. And most statistics are made up. It's like how some people QQ about Dell's customer support.

Ok, so another update: Found out more about both computers.
Acer - 899$ Best Buy, 3 year insurance ~$300. 4 gigs mem, Nvidia GeForce GTS 360M (1 gig dedicated, class 1 card), 500 gig hd, Camo top, light up keyboard, open close lid.
HP - $999 Sam's Club, 3 year insurance ~$90. 6 gig mem, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 (1 gig dedicated, class 2 card), 640 gig hd, usual hp black and silver design, locked lid, and bonus Blu-Ray player.
Rest is the same pretty much, i5 430 processor, dvd, etc.
ppl at Best Buy said the Acer can be upgraded to 8 gigs with another 4 gig memory, but that'll cost 300$.
VERY SHORT GPU summary:
Acer - Top of the line for labtops, can run current games in med-high fluidly. DirectX 10.1
HP - Mid class. Can run current game in low fluidly, older games in high such as l4d. DirectX 11
There's another acer one for $999 with 6 gig but no blu-ray, but it's running a dual core... not sure if there's much of a diff considering i5 430 are dual, not quad cores, and it's top speed only hits 2.5 ghz with the turboboost. the core 2 hits 2.5 normally.
