JAMAICAN authorities say they are putting Kingston and surrounding areas under a state of emergency as police fight armed gangs trying to stop the arrest of a reputed gang leader Christopher "Dudus" Coke sought for possible extradition to the US.

A police officer and a civilian were wounded by gunfire in street clashes and three police stations came under attack in the city, police said today.

One police station was set on fire after police abandoned it having run out of bullets, they added.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding held an emergency meeting with his cabinet today and issued a State of Emergency for Kingston and St. Andrew, set to take effect at 6pm (9am AEST today) in this Caribbean nation of about 2.8 million.

The Government said the state of emergency will last for at least a month.

how is a druglord equal to the figure of RobinHood...

it would be like if Robin Hood robbed from the poor and then sold them meat laced with opium so they'd become crippled addicts with no money or welfare who depended on him and he used that relationship to form a personal army....

i think its amazing though how they've managed to kill so many civilians and so few members of the opposition...what a **** up

Apparently he uses the money to help and feed the population in need...

It's not like he offers them drugs and goes like: "oh hi im helping you right now dont take this btw use it as money"

so you're telling me that a guy who sells poison and weapons of war is just using that money to feed people out of the kindness of his heart...

and you're just going to ignoring that drug dealers often use their money and drugs to maintain control of their territory gaining the admiration/fear/respect of the local, often uneducated/poor, populace...
