a question about PS2 games' compatibility with PS3

ok here's the situation. A while ago my ps2 stopped working so I bought the new ps3. but the thing is that I don't have any cool games on the ps3 except metal gear solid 4 wich came with it but its not that great. but I had a lot of cool games on my ps2 like gta san andreas, dragonball (childish but still an awesome game

) and some other games. so im wondering if I can use my ps2 games with my ps3 and if it's compatible cuz I don't want to break my brand-new ps3

thanks in advance

Yes from what my friend(who owns a ps3) told me before..you can play ps2 games on the old ps3 but not on the slim version.

I found this quote on
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3here it is
All models support software emulation of the original PlayStation,[75][76] but support for PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility has continually diminished with later models and the last model to advertise integrated backwards compatibility was the 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle
cuz mine is the 80gb that came with metal gear solid 4. so does this mean that the 80gb is the last model that is compatible with ps2 games?

Yes it is. With that one you'll be able to play the Playstation 2 games.

Even if your PS3 wasn't able to play them, it wouldn't break it. The PS3 would just say something along the lines of "Media could not be read" or something similar.

Try to save for God Of War, GoW separates the ps3 from the xbox
