Computer Help - Resetting a Password

Hey SRF,

I was looking for some computer help. Here's my situation:
I picked up a relatively fast machine that my friend used to use, and intend on using it as a secondary computer. The problem is, I don't know the password to it. Is there any way that I can login to the computer to change the password, or reinstall it? I have no CDs, no password reset disks... just a locked computer running Windows Vista.

TIA!

Is there like a password lock that is preventing you from gaining access to the desktop? Or you mean some other kind of password lock(i.e. BIOS)?

I think she/he means the simple user password.

If it is the password required just to get into the desktop, then the only way I know of is to Destroy that partition. Meaning you would need to wipe out that drive. Then upload your own OS onto it.

Rumor is that ophtcrack doesn't work on Vista, I've been using this tool for years:

http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administr ... ssword.htm

Basically a linux boot disk that accesses the location where the password is.
