A desktop is always better and gaming on a laptop will always be inferior.

If you've ever needed a laptop for school or work you know why a 17 or 18.4 screen is a stupid idea.

I looked at the specs and I must admit i'm impressed. I paid like $1600 for my laptop and I don't even use it anymore because its shit.

I suggest getting a desktop, but for $800, I could understand buying this.

Well yeah of course, you'll always get better specs for cheaper price on a desktop(My 1400$ Laptop gets owned by 1000$ Desktop). But judging from his post, to me it looked like he was looking to do some Gaming on a Laptop. Therefore I do believe 17/18.4' Laptop is the way to go(4 Gaming) :D

spend 600 ( 700 will buy you top performance ) on a desktop and the min for what you actually require on a laptop, now you have 2 pcs, better performance, etc, etc.

Would Alienware even be the best way to go? I thought they were the best for gaming?

How do you think the stock M11x would do running SRO?

Yea, the M11x is set to get Optimus and new CPU's. Definitely would suggest waiting until then.

Personally I would not buy this. It's heavy and battery only lasts for a short short while. Go with an Asus UL30 instead.

lol i reread it and it turns out to be rumors, but the engadget review is at: http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/23/alie ... 1x-review/

This.

If your gonna game, get a Desktop. You can get a Desktop for 1/2 the Price as a laptop that has the same Gaming specs or better. Plus Desktops are much easier to Customize / Upgrade. The biggest screen I am personally going to get on a Laptop is 15 Inch.

One built by yourself, if you give me a budget I can easily put one together for you, do know that it takes very little skill to put a system together yourself and I recommend spending in that 600-700idh budget range ( top performance at that pricepoint, you can't get much higher even with a 2k budget ).

Ok, saying I go with the 600-700$ budget, what could you find me that's ideal for gaming?

Even with a $700 budget you can still probably get an i7 since they are quite cheap now for like $275 unless you want top end then we're talking around $600(lol black edition $1000)

an i7 is one of the most idiotic buys you can do specially on a budget build when you take into consideration than an i3 for less than half the price mirrors it's performance.

@thread dude, a gpu, the radeon hd 4870.

Do you ever contribute to these threads or just come in with your high and mighty douche bag attitude? From what I can tell, you don't know anything about computers, but are really good at being a dick. That's just from observing your posts in pc threads though, maybe if you contributed to the topic I wouldn't have that opinion. In 4 your douche bag response, or probably no response at all.

OnT: Do you reaaally need a laptop? Could you settle for a desktop? You can get a lot more for your money by going with a desktop. (Yes, I know this has already been pointed out). Love gave a good suggestion too, lower your desktop budget AND buy a cheap notebook / netbook.

i agree with all the laptop haters, i hate laptops. all your buying is portability, if you need something portable buy a netbook, they are $300. those things are genious. the only time you should buy a laptop is for college/university when you have a mobile comp course or something.

please do yourself a favour and buy a desktop.

I've read the i5 and i7 are quite similar performance wise.

but I have an i3 on my laptop and in benchmarks it doesn't match up to my q6600 @ 3.2ghz
Sure there are many other factors but using both desktop and laptop I feel quite a difference. I'm also guessing the portable i3 line is much different, but I really doubt the desktop version compares to the i7 desktop version..

The i3 is at most generally speaking 5-6~ fps away from the i7, this for less than half the price, when you also take into consideration that the processor is maxing just about every games ( 60+ fps ) just like the other options and blah blah blah, yes I do feel comfortable spouting out the statement I did because in the real world you wouldn't get a drop more from the other 2 ( not accounting for overcloking that is not needed on any of the 3 couse they all max most titles with ease ).

Did I mention price ? 120-140.
