http://www.iltalehti.fi/uutiset/2010033 ... 7_uu.shtmlAn elderly man died during Earth Hour, on a dark road on Saturday.
A 17-year old motorcyclist collided with a man born in 1939 on Saturday after 9 o'clock in Uusikaupunki. Despite medical treatment, the man died on scene.
According to police, Levysepänkatu's lights were switched off because of the international Earth Hour. There was a sidewalk next to the street, but the victim was walking on the road due to unknown reasons.
The police department of Uusikaupunki is still looking for witnesses of the event. Anyone who has information about the event are advised to contact police.
The female driver is not suspected of speeding or drunk driving.
Hmmm... I guess it was entirely a good thing...

Just me that thinks it's not the old mans fault but the 17 year old? Even if it is fucking Earth Hour you still keep your lights on, on your car/MC/moped or whatever on a dark night.

It's a combination of two stupid acts. If he was truly just walking down the middle of the street, stupid. The motorcyclist was driving without headlights, stupid.
Man is dead because of stupidity.
Who was "more stupid"..that's up to you.

Well, I didn't read the first post to carefully, didn't see that the man was walking on the road, then it's mostly his fault.

lol
saving the earth by not turning on your headlights
but using gasoline to move forward
and headlights work on motor/car-battery, so electricity created anyways
dumb people are dumb

Nowhere it says that the bike's headlights were off. Just the street lights. Not the biker's fault, not her stupidity. The road was wet, absorbs light very well and such light bikes rarely have powerful headlights.
The street lights being off was unfortunate (and stupid, some earth hour ain't gonna save the planet), but obviously what caused the accident was the fact that the old man was walking where he definately shouldn't have been.
Pity the biker, though. Must be pretty shocked.

So it's the old man's fault for walking down the street when the pretentious fools decided to shut their lights off?
I don't know if you guys are familiar with the term: "DUR HURRR DERP DE DURRRRRR" but that's what I'm reading a lot of in the posts above.
I guess in Finland pedestrians never have the right of way.

I do not know how it is there where you live, but here people are supposed to walk on the sidewalk when such exists next to the road. If you walk in the middle of the road when there's a sidewalk next to you, and you get driven over; yeah in my opinion that's your fault.

Well, remind me to stay away from the street when you're driving.
By that logic it's totally fine to floor it when people are in the street like this pic:
