Exodus 21:20-21 "And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money."

I'm still trying to figure out what the fuck it's saying. I understand the first part, but the second part makes me go.

A bash religion thread by goseki what a surprise.
@mrjoey: I think it's saying the owner can beat his servant cuz the servant is his possesion ("his money")

lemme paraphrase.
if someone beats their servant and they die, they will be punished. if they beat their servant and he is injured and laid up for a day or two , they shall compensate him silver for it.
i looked it up with a program that allows you to read the direct translation from hebrew, and that is basically what it says. it doesnt say the servant is his money. its a poor translation. it says "yea if day or two-days he-is-standing not he-shallbe-avenged that silver-of.him he" the hyphened words are all one word in hebrew.
a servant and slave back then was different than we are used to. people could pay their debts by volunteering to enslave themselves. it isnt like someone just forced someone else to work for them for free. it was alot like how jacob worked for his wives.

aka an indentured servant, though it may have been called something else during the time this literature was written.

This thread will not end well. Like all threads before, it will flame up in a rage and die in ashes, only to sink to the bottom and fall into a pile with the countless other religion threads.
The End.

Almost every thread will sink to the bottom and fall into the abyss. The only ones that never die are ones that involve posting updates.

this is more of a bash on Christianity then religion.
Islam doesn't allow servants
they are basically the same thing you just believe a different god.

Or perhaps it's the same god with a different name. You know, the one that doesn't exist.

Perhaps.
Code: Select all
We're pretty good at coming up with Gods. Humanity has been doing it for awhile. It's an evolutionary trait that we humans possess. We don't like "not-knowing", so we make up stuff to fill in the gaps.
*And the flame rages, let the thread burn!*

I lol'ed.
I'm looking forward to see a Christian start pulling quotes from the Quran.
SUGGESTION: Start with Mohammed's Aisha and how it's worse than slavery. Is the story that she was 6 he married her? 8 he had sex with her, at the age of 56?

if you go back far enough, christians and muslims believe in the same god.
