A South Korean couple who were addicted to the internet let their three-month-old baby starve to death while raising a virtual daughter online, police said.
The pair fed their own premature baby just once a day in between 12-hour stretches at an internet cafe, the official Yonhap news agency reported.
Police officer Chung Jin-won told Yonhap they "lost their will to live a normal life" after losing their jobs.
He said they "indulged themselves online" to escape from reality.
The 41-year-old father and his 25-year-old wife were arrested in the city of Suweon, south of Seoul, earlier this week, five months after they reported the death of their baby.
An autopsy showed her death was caused by a long period of malnutrition.
The couple had become obsessed with nurturing a virtual girl called Anima in the popular role-playing game Prius Online, police said on Friday.
The game enables players to interact with Anima and as they do so, help her to recover her lost memory and develop emotions.

So they were farming too hard and forgot to level up?

OT: Pretty disgusting. Maybe the history has something to do with it... Babies on that area haven't been treated very well in the past either. If you already had a child and the next one wasn't a boy, they got rid of the baby because a girl wouldn't bring any income to the family. They seem to stop valuing life when the problems pile up or something.

That's why they needed to eliminate him. The CEO paid them to do it because his game was in danger.

Most countries on that coast share a more or less similar history & problems so I don't see why it couldn't have happened in other countries than china/india. But you're right about that, it probably never happened in south korea but that area hasn't been known as south korea for that long. There's still a big load of people living there that didn't even born in south korea, I believe it was a part of japan till late 40's and then they had a big war inside korea.

what on earth are you talking about..? There are a bunch of people in south korea that aren't south korean? Korea was part of Japan until the end of WWII. Thats like 70 years ago, theres hardly any japanese in korea compared to the number of japanese in it 70 years ago if thats what you mean.
My point is that a lot of asian countries in general have had issues with "boy>girl". But thats history, developed countries like south korea, japan don't have that kind of discrimination anymore. You only see that in developing countries like china, india, cambodia, etc.

No no, I said many people who are currently living there didn't born during the time it was called "south korea" it was nearly 50's when that happened. But that's not the point, like you said "that's history" that's also what I kept saying so I don't see what's the problem here. >.<

Korea was never part of Japan. It was its own country.
Japan had just ruled over Korea aka Imperialism.
And I don't know how you guys go from negligence of parents to talking about history.
