Hey guys, I'm writing a research paper for an English class on Hollywood's use of theme of "the unknown" in movies and tv shows.
Part of the paper is a survey that I need to do and was wondering if you guys could help me out.
All you need to do is copy the questions and put your answers below them.

Comedy for both movies and tv shows

A little bit of laughter can lighten up a dull day

Definitely good storytelling
6.Are special effects necessary for the success of a movie / tv show? If not, what else do they rely on?
If its a movie with a bad story then yes.. but if you combine both story and good effects like in avatar then you get a blockbuster hit

It depends of what the kind of movie it is.

Both, good storytelling with crappy effects can make a movie bad, same with bad story telling and good special effects.

It all depends on what the movie is about.

I don't like the other types.

Good storytelling.

I don't think so, since I prefer romantic comedies and comedies special effects are not necessary. You can laugh anyways.

If it's horror, no. If it's something else, maybe.

Good story

No. The success of a movie relies on a good story, good actors and some aspect that interests me.

yep, what movie would be good if you already knew the plot. (and what movie would be good without bad puns
)

stories based on interesting lives or concepts: Forrest Gump, Early Edition
or anything that is just plain AWESOEMNE!!Z (Gurren Lagann)
4.What makes this genre your favorite?
It's interesting, not a soap, fun characters, good story, can easily be humorous
5.What do you consider more important in a movie / tv show, good special effects or good storytelling?
good storytelling. if it has a story it can keep you going, no matter how crappy it looks. rarely movies can actually exist solely on special effects (transformers)
6.Are special effects necessary for the success of a movie / tv show? If not, what else do they rely on?
it depends on the movie. if it's a war movie you'll definitely needs special effects to keep the thrill in it. if it's a romance you don't really need it.
The only thing I expect of my movie is that it doesn't use a hand camera D:

Something cryptic that could drive one to attempt to find out what something is

Sure. Curiosity drives humans, we wanna know things from really useless info to some benefiting stuff towards mankind.

Comedy, Thriller, Drama, Horror, and Action .....Horror & Comedy being the top 2

Grew up watching mainly these genres ... I like to laugh every chance I get ... which is why I watch horror movies, too ... I kind of laugh sometimes at how some could find it scary.
5. What do you consider more important in a movie / tv show, good special effects or good storytelling?
Good storytelling .... could paint a turd gold and stud it with diamonds, but it's still a piece of shit.

Depends on the group of people, but usually a story that pulls its audience in towards wanting more is the best.

Outer Space and the Universe. As well as our origin.

Depends how well it's played, and if it's something stupid, then no.

Comedy, but with a plotline.

Most entertaining.

Good storytelling.

Special effects, to a limit can be cool, but also the story, the logical progression, and just the plain entertainment value are all empirical to a movie's success.
