pretty good change your fucked
keep trying to re-start it, if it persists open it up and make sure your sata or IDE cables are plugged in, if they are there is a pretty good chance your drives dead.

Wait so you have 2 hard drives in there?
Either he swapped the sata cables thus your system can't find windows, or he took off your windows drive and left one in there without windows XD

If you had two hard drives and then took one out..put the old one back in. It may have the boot record on it.
I had that happen with a Raid-0 and single sata setup. I couldn't remove the single drive because it contained the mbr for the raid setup..
In other words, you will need both HDs plugged in to boot.

yeah it has 2 hard drive in it. i'll show him this topic when he get home.
but in other words.. the pc was built by my dad about 2 years ago. he recently build himself a new one so he gave me his pc that he built 2 years ago. the two hard drive he installed to the 2 year old pc is either brand new or used one that he empty out.

Meh it's probably either set to boot off the wrong HDD in bios, or it's a corrupt windows.

im sure its been said (i only skimmed through the thread) try 1 hard drive at a time and see what one works. if none work and you have a linux live cd (linux that boots from a cd and not the hard drive) attempt to run that not important but if it does not work then your having bigger issues. if you don't have the live cd and switching the hard drivers don't work you might have to reinstall vista. though you could try a hard drive from another computer if you have one before reinstalling windows.

Some pcs have this problem, typically its simple hardware problem. If you move your pc sometimes the SATA cable and its power ocnnector may slightly disconnect, just open up your case and unplug them both from your hardrive and plug them back in, that
should fix it

Basically you should just check your cabling for your hard drive(s)

I had similar problems with my pc early last year. I just kept blue screening for no apparent reason at any given time. Tried everything to fix it but nothing helped. Searched the whole net but found nothing. Then as a last resort i pressed on all of the cards to make sure they were inserted right and it fixed it
