Immortal Technique, Lyrical Genius.

Edit: So apparently there are old threads of him in OTL, but it never hurts to give props where they are due, and this man deserves them :D

So I'm usually not a big fan of rap because of the wannabe-gangsters running around, IMO hip-hop died with Biggie and Tupac. I recently came across this man, Immortal Technique, who's half black and half peruvian and was raised in Harlem

After listening to some of his songs, I'm truly convinced this man is a lyrical genius. None of his songs are about how much money he has, how many b*itches he's f*cked, or much of a gangster he is, which sadly is the standard of today's hiphop/rap songs. All of his songs are about political struggle, life lessons, stories, etc. Also, he's not afraid to spit the truth. In fact, many of his songs criticize the government for supporting terrorism, destroying the economy, etc. I don't agree with everything he says, but I researched MANY of things he talks about, and they all have very murky details about the US Government.

He refuses to sign with a record deal because he doesn't want to be censored by them, and he doesn't want them taking in all his profits. Just listen to one of his songs, you won't be disappointed.

Favorite Quotes:

"If your message ain't shit, then f*ck the records you sold. Because if you go platinum, it's got nothing to do with luck, it just means that a million people are as stupid as f*ck."

"Universal truth is not measured in mass appeal."

"My metaphors are dirty like herpes but harder to catch"

"And they might even have a Black president but he's useless because he does not control the economy stupid."

That's the guy in my avatar.
He's a Farking god, he would tear down today's retarded rap, and he's not mainstream so he's not that popular but he is slowly rising.

ok so i totally respected him. his abilities are off the charts, his flow is s smooth. but now that i have seen him wereing a shirt with his own name on it, he lost a few points. thatd be like if i wore a shirt with my own picture on it. just kinda wrong.

yeah, i just realized that it's kind of lame. he says some stuff that makes sense but some other stuff like in an interview saying he'd wish cops' kids would die.

his flow is tight but he's kind of a tool, yeah.

His lyrics are sick, hes the guy that restored my faith in rap. Pretty old though. My favorite songs by him are "The 4th Branch" "Harlem Streets" and "No mercy". If you haven't heard them youtube em.

Lol, this reminds me...when I first registered for srf my username was IT and I later changed it because no one got the reference and Immortal Technique was too long

I swear 50% of YouTube comment "Tupac 4 ever, best rapper alive" just to join the bandwagon. I bet they don't even listen to his songs. I like Tupac & some of his songs(No Changes comes to my mind) but he is way over rated.

As for Biggie, I think he has good lyrics but his "flow" is too slow for me. Thats why I love Eminem, his a lyrical genius and spit his rhymes so fast.

I love big L, nas, and I don't even think Lupe should even be there. Immortal is sick, they are NOT in the same level as him.

Pac was a revolutionary type rapper then the gangsta rap hit and thats where the money was at so he went there and did less and less revolutionary rap.

Biggie was truly a hustla, he rapped about what he did, and alot of farked up shit that happens in the hood.

Immortal is on pacs level if u ask me simply because he has the thought process just like him. I respect him more because he aint going just for the cash. Dont get me wrong, Pac had to get his money but i think he shoulda stayed with his revolutionary style as well as the gangsta shit. I have every single tupac song ever made and biggy song ever made.

I know what im talking about lol.

Yea I'm not hating on Lupe, I got mad respect for him, but he isn't on the same level as the others YET, hopefully he will be in the future.

Of course we all know Biggie and Pac were both at the top of their levels when they were killed, but the difference between them and IT is that practically 100% of his songs deal with political social issues. Pac's songs dealt with them too, but no where near as much as IT's. And I'm not too familiar with many Biggie song that deals with them either. That's the main reason I like IT over them.
