If that's North Korea, it's prob due to them only having 3 websites to choose from.

Just wait for Google. 1 gb/s will be epic.

The amount of websites available does not affect your download speed.

It's probably South-Korea, one of the few (or only?) countries that has more internet connections than telephone connections.

man why do people always ask if its north korea or south korea? If you haven't been living in a cave for the past 10 years you'd know that north korea is poor, has famines, electrical outages, and is a criminal communist country who wants nukes and wants to destroy the world. South Korea is the polar opposite: wealthy, modernized, is a democracy, big entertainment culture, etc.

knowing this would obviously point to the fact that the topic is about south korea :palm:

oh if anyone wants to make fun of America's slow internet speeds, it would be unfair to compare America to a country like South Korea. First, Korea is really small, and laying networks down on it is really easy. You can't do that in America cause its too big. Also, not everyone in America needs to have high speed internet. A rancher in kansas or a farmer in south dakota they don't need to download war rock in 45 sec so they settle for dial up and are happy with it.

Actually, it is because a wealthy country is going to have the money available to invest in high speed internet.

Reise wrote:Have you been to NK?

that post wasn't factual, only my guess about the number of people in north korea that have computers. Anyways, the fact is, internet is only available to the communist elite in pyongyang, the people in pyongyang, and other government centers.

1.3Mb/s @ home (canada)

the highest package available is 50 Mbits translating to..6.25 Mb/s

cost is something like 99$ a month which isn't bad for an internet of that speed for a Canadian..

the highest internetspeed that's being offered in holland is 120 mbit/s i believe.

it costs around the €100/month, which i find quite acceptable for that kind of speed.

no it's not about the money.

it's about Kim Jong-il.

Thats true, but kim jong-il's choice of government is communism and totalitarian, which by nature is going to be very poor. Even if kim wanted to lay down high speed internet, he'd have to buy the knowledge and infastructure to do so..and that costs money.

"High speed internet" isn't exactly a secret.

I have to wonder where you get your information from.

Re: Korean DL Speed

I never said that high speed internet was secret or powerful technology. I'm sure north korea can get public high speed internet if it really wanted to. But a poor country like north korea and a dictatorial country like north korea (internet promotes free speech and free communication which north korea obviously restricts) probably isn't going to have a realistic ability to provide dsl internet to everyone in its country. It probably has high speed internet in kim jong il's private house and the rest of his communist party members in pyongyang but beyond that, I doubt north korea has any kind of sophisticated internet network.

That's not all that fast to be honest. At college I got around 50mb/s and on my server the most I've seen is around 90 (dedicated data centre ftw.)

currently I'm working with Ohio University(Athens) to bridge some wiring to my house (for a cost of course) because they have a direct line to Ohio University(lancaster) which is only a few blocks away. I get 5.0 mb/s dld speed on a good site. And with this connection I can get a more "exclusive" connection and open up the servers I'm planning to. I've invested 23k in Servers, I'm currently writing management software for it, If I have it up in next six months I'll some of you guys trials accounts to test it out

lol my school has 14mbs and you guys do know that when speedtest or something says like 14 mbs it means megabits right? (unless your downloading something then its in bytes.)

so technically my school is running 1.75 megabytes per second.

North Korea mmmm I remember watching gumball 3000 when they went there, they had to get their phones taken away at the airport, fly in with an un-named airplane, only 5 minutes of footage was allowed to be aired... crual country... I could only imagine the people at the gas stations when they saw a bently and ferrari come to fill up... hahaha must have been priceless...

OnT: steal some military T4, you'll be in heaven hahaha but tell me how long it takes for them to find you :3 if you have time to write a post haha

This is obviously South Korea for two reasons.

1. It says South Korea in the tags.

2. If it was from North Korea we wouldn't be seeing it. North Korea is extremely private. No one is allowed to leave the country or talk to foreigners (other than tour guides).

3. If it was from North Korea it would be propaganda and most likely fake. The only people who would have access to youtube would be government officials. Cut off from the world, North Korea is an economic disaster. Almost everyone in the country starving and guided tours show us that the largest city is a ghost town. No one walks the streets and police offers direct traffic that doesn't exist. North Korea lacks the knowledge and funds to create internet speeds of that caliber. If they did have internet this fast the only person using it would be Kim Jong Il.
