So we just ordered the new computer online.
here's what we bought, someone tell me of it's any good or not.
graphics card: Club 3D CGAX-57724I (radeon 5770)
RAM: OCZ 4 GB DDR3-1333 Kit
Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 630
Power: OCZ StealthXStream 500W
Motherboard: MSI 770-C45
(some parts were automatically chosen, I didn't mess with those, so I don't remember which ones they were)
I'm re-using my old case and my old CD/DVD Read/Write drives (+ floppy

)
We're buying an XP to W7 upgrade pack separately from Amazon, because if we order it form the other site they only have the license to deliver it pre-installed, meaning I may have to buy a dvd drive + case just so that they could construct it (+ in the end it's cheaper anyway).
total sum is approximately 480 euro for the parts, and 80 more for the windows. so 560 in total.

there's no way in hell you need it more than me! (unless yours is just broken)
I'm using a Geforce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X, beat that!

I bought myself a 5770 just before christmas, it's a good card. Make sure you use the latest drivers though or you will have a very expensive paper weight until you update them.

Wow even better.
If it will really run smoothly with future games this is worth the 700$ ( with windows 7) then.

why do you guys act so shocked at the price. go to tigerdirect.com and customize a computer. its not expensive. i just bought a nice assed PC+ moniter for less than 700. granted its a dual core and not quad, but i could have went quad for another 50 or so dollars.
enjoy the much deserved upgrade homie.

it depends on how much developers push hardware in the next few years but 1-2 years sounds about right.

my first time as well. I'm getting 2 of the friends together so we can build the blasted thing, cause only one actually knows how to do it.
I'm not quite in a hurry for it just yet D:, I've got a few test to fix, so I don't want it distracting me Q_Q.
I guess I expect the whole set within a week, maybe 2.

^it makes SCII bite dust.
but this did bring up a question for me. how much RAM does W7 64bit use to run?

Mmmm, sitting idle with my antivirus/firewall running plus chrome it says I'm using 23% of my 8GB. 1.8GB. I haven't restarted my pc in a few days so there is probably some ram that could be unloaded. However, I think 7 will use more or less ram depending on what is available to it. It's optimized to handle ram usage a lot better than vista.
I'm using 64-bit Ultimate evaluation copy.
Have to get my retail version installed asap, this eval runs out in 10 days..

personally im not very comfortable with using 500W PSU to run newer graphic cards anymore, i'd go for 600 or 650W.

well techincally the whole computer had an average watt usage of approx 200 watt. so we got a 500watt PSU so the graphic card can reach a peak. so the total watt usage should be around 450watt at the most. I think...

Good efficiency rating, plenty of amps on dual rails..it'll work fine for your setup. OCZ makes pretty good power supplies.
