Iv not long upgrade my case, worked out airflow in the new case have cooling on my ram and good cooling on the processor and want to look at overclocking its new territory for me i know a lot about computers but iv always been too scared to try overclocking heard bad stories so im asking for help.

this is my computer setup

dont know why the ram is only running at 333mhz (iv got 2 sticks of 1066mhz, the other 2 sticks run at 667mhz))

for gpu you can use rivatunner but for cpu overclock you have to mess with the bios so when you boot up you press delete (at least most of the time) i would say go on youtube and look at people overclock your computer. just don't rush in and overclock it to much at a time or you could kill the thing.

well tbh with newer chips they are harder to kill unless i push too much voltage onto it which i cnt do though this mobo lol just knowing good stable amounts but yeh il look on the net, no point overclocking gpu i plan on upgrading to the gf100 when its released

buz kill to this topic the phenomx4 I 9750 cant be overclocked past 2.83ghz much (ofc does depend on mobo) something to do with it been an early architechure so il wait til i get the phenomx4 II Black Edition much easier to overclock from what good tells me shame when this chip is running under 30oC atm just shouts overclock

Next, whats up with your cpu-z reading? Your multiplier is 6..it should be set to 12. It's running at 1200mhz instead of the stock 2400.

Your ram is running at 333mhz because you have a memory divider (3:5)(FSB:MemMhz) set in your bios. Stock it should say 400mhz, (1:2). For now, stick with the (3:5) divider so your ram will stay slightly underclocked as you raise the FSB. This will keep the ram from becoming a stability issue, have to focus on one item at a time.

Proof that I know what I'm doing: CPU-Z 2.5Ghz @ 3.6Ghz - My 9800GT is at 700/1100.

It just depends.. sometimes heat isn't an issue, lack of voltage is. If you keep the ram divider like it is, when you start raising the FSB to overclock the cpu, your ram frequency will go up also..slowly getting closer to 400mhz.

Leave it at (3:5) for now so you don't have two variables while overclocking your cpu. If something is unstable you don't want to have to check both the memory and cpu. Work on one thing at a time. See how high and stable you can get the cpu THEN you can mess with ram dividers. Don't try doing everything at once..it's too hard to pinpoint the instability.

yeh i read that on the website hehe well tbh with my memory im running 2 chips as i said above so really when iv got the money il fix that buy buying another 2gb of corsiar dominator ram

I didn't read the guide I posted, but it's from a reputable site. I was a long time member of a computer oc'ing forum long before I even thought about playing SRO or finding this place.

no it wont but its better then trying to overclock 2 types of ram only thing the ram is got in common is the maker

Ahh, I see what you're saying, to replace the 5300. Didn't notice you had mismatched sticks.

In the meantime, fix your multiplier... you're running a 1200mhz UNDERclock. lol

(unless cpu-z is reporting wrong, I doubt it)

i changed something to 12.00 x yet nothing has changed on my system now its all loaded up :\

Try cpu-z, is it still reporting a 6x multi? Did you save the bios settings?

pressed f10 to save and exit it restarted the computer

got it to say the right numbers but watching it it seems to jump between

1200x6 and 2400x12 its up and down each update usually stays in the lower end could it be something to do with the fact im hardly using it atm?

Ah, ok that's why it was reporting wrong. There is an option (on intel systems CoolNQuiet) that reduces the mutli while the cpu isn't in use to help keep it cool. It's usually recommended to turn that off while overclocking so you know what mhz you're running at all times. Easier to check for stability problems like that.

you should only use the 6400 ram. The other ones are slowing you down.

Ugh, it's been a long time since I've overclocked, but EVGA has all the answers down pat. Always change one thing at a time, test for stability then change others.

I'm building a "new" pc - Abit IP35 plus E7400 plus Corsair RAM, debating on whether to buy a Nvidia GTS250 or stick with my 8800GS.

dont go over the mobo CPU voltage limit LOL

well i had to open the computer anyways to install a couple of things while i was doing that i took out the 2 sticks of older slower ram its helped

also did some cable management cleared up 90% of the cables behind the computer and in the front of the computer where they are out of sight

i got a question that slightly relates to this.... my cpu is a 2.6 ghz model but its running at a faster speed not by much but more then .01 of a ghz. that normal or is my cpu outa wack? i have not messed with the core speeds at all.

That's normal. It's usually never exact.

im having a problem my ram is 2.1 V but is currently running at 1.8v when i pump the juice up to 2.1v i got the blue screen what am i doing wrong?

it could be that your motherboard does not support that high?

mobo should suppport it il check edit: it does il try it again maybe i did something wrong
