im applying to Sheridan college and i have to do this assignment for admission but i'm a little confused.

1. Story Idea: On a separate page, provide a 200-word summary of an idea for a 10 minute documentary or narrative film. Word count is important – your submission should be as close to 200 words as possible. Be sure your story idea incorporates the following elements:
Establish time and setting and genre (horror, drama, comedy, documentary, etc.). Establish your principle character and tell us what makes this character interesting. Explain what the principle character is trying to accomplish, and why, and what might happen if they don’t accomplish it. Introduce the principle character’s adversary or opposition (a person, a group – whatever or whoever prevents the principle character from achieving their wants.) Outline one or two ways in which the conflict builds over the course of the film or documentary. Move to the film’s most intense point: a crisis, a dilemma faced, a critical clash of points of view, a self-realization. Sum up the “journey” of the protagonist: what they learned (or not); how they changed. Tell us how your audience will learn from this story and how they can relate to it.
i just having a hard time trying to figure out how to apply a story to a documentary? with characters and dilemma's. I just can't wrap my mind around it, anyone know what im not getting here?

All documentaries have stories. Penguins documentaries are based around them surviving (all nature documentaries); veterans are based on following a few people (in this case the protagonist) fighting the health care system or w/e; and if you're Michael Moore all your documentaries are revolve around how shitty the U.S. is.
FYI: The protagonist should say something about yourself in real life, in case you didn't know :/

Ya'know, Borat is considered a documentary as well. So, you're not limited in story line or anything. As long as it has the take on realism it's a documentary. In Borat's case the idiots preaching in the church were real and they really did run around naked through the hotel, pretty much everything else in there was real as well.
You can make anything. It can be COMPLETELY ridiculous, but as long as it's done for real it's a documentary.
You can probably just tie a teddybear to a cat and follow it with a cam, then dub over it and you've got a documentary. you could explain how the bear suffers from his connection with the cat, and how horrible the dead mice smell .

Innocent paper delivery boy thrown into a world of chaos when zombie robot nazi ninjas attack Canada in an attempt to spread their infection through Maple Syrupy goodness. How will he be able to choose between saving the world, or the zombie robot nazi ninja women he loves.

college in Canada = community college in US
Just apply to Waterloo/Toronto/Laurier/etc. In Ontario they will take anyone with a pen and paper.

What camps are you applying to? I'm currently at the Davis campus (soon to be at home for a long time though if this strike happens).
Correct me if I am wrong but it says that you don't need to "just" do a documentary film, but any film that is narrative?

not sure what camps. not even sure how to do a narrative film lol . hasn't anyone ever applied to media arts!??!?
