Now i often take a peak in most threads about computers in the otl section and its a 50/50 situation sometimes you get good discussion and meaningful tips other times you get utter shit
Right now my current Computer is Motherboard: M4N78-PRO Processor: AMD Phenom x4 GFX Card: nVidea Geforce 8800gt 1gb PSU: Cheap one less then 500w Sound Card: Sound Blaster RAM: Corsair 800MhZ 2x2Gb Not upgrading DvD drive or hdd anytime soon so not gona list
Now right now i have 2 new parts incoming Antec Truepower TP-650 (PSU) Corsair Dominator 2x2Gb 1066Mhz
My question is what order should i upgrade next 2 things im thinking about are AMD Phenom 2 x4 nVidea GT300 Fermi (when its out)
what would you suggest i get next or anything else that i can add to my sytem besides what i listed

what comes after the Phenom 2 x4?
as for the graphics right now ati is ahead of the game at this moment. not sure if nvidia will pull ahead with their next set.

That probably means a mobo upgrade. I don't think you'll miss anything with an AMD.

im not after a hardcore computer the amd chips might not be as good as the i series but are stil good chips which are good for overclocking, as for ati never really liked them they dont seem to do anything original fermi or gt300 will be the first dx11 card on the market but as said im not sure what thats gona be like
and i should have mentioned im not doing more upgrades til march this is just information that i can use to make the right choice
should also add the motherboard is new i fried the old asus m3a-pro board accidently needed to replace so i got an upgrade while replacing as this one sports AM3 support while m3a dont

the i's are a bit much for gaming and normal day to day operations....
in fact i have this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103706 yet i have no problems with games or normal day to day applications..... sure winrar might unpack something faster with an i7 but is it worth the extra $200?
anyways i would recommend the Phenom II X4 955 if you have an am3 board it will do wonders for you. also its a black edition so the multiplier is unlocked (if you like to overclock). i used to be an intel fan until i built my own system with a AMD cpu.

yeh the black edition was the one iv been looking at not sure in what order i should get things though i think my gfx is the most out-dated thing in the computer atm but fermi might be overkill if not for performance it will be for price thats for sure

fermi is way over kill..it'll bottle neck for sure on what you're running/going to run.

This is pretty much gona cost the same as a total rebuild let me elaberate
For the i-series
New motherboard possibly new ram new processor new video card
im looking at steady upgrades eventually i will want to get a new processor (after phenom II x4) then this can be justified
my next upgrade is in march i would like a dx11 gfx card cus dx10 or ati's dx10.9 (which they market as dx11 cards) will go out of date too fast as we are on the verge of mass new cards coming out granted getting an older card isnt bad seeing as this 8800 plays all games that are out 99% in high settings

$300 cpu mobo bundles on newegg can get you into the i5's which are actually quite impressive. but this doesn't matter, i still say you should get a new graphics card, sure dx9 and 10 will be legacy but is dx11 really gonna storm the market? there is only about 20 or so noticeable game that use dx10. this isn't even the point, those nvidia cards (however very powerful but ludicrously overpriced) are coming out in Q2 2010. you want something now buy ATI's 5800 series

Get a better PSU, i'd suggest a 750+ watt AAA-brand like corsair or something. Those videocards can be hungry, and if you decide to upgrade even more later you might have to buy a new PSU.

I'd upgrade graphics and processor next, just like you said. Maybe mobo + processor combo. I prefer intel over AMD, but your choice.

I completely disagree. DX 10 was probably the worst upgrade I've ever made..Very, very few games made good use of it and I seriously doubt any direct x 11 based games will pop out within the next 1-2 years..
dx10 and ddr3 memory..waste of time when they came out and even years after.

well this is a 50/50 subject i dont just play games and having a good gfx benefits me in 3d moddeling namlly the rendering phase which is taxing enough i want to get a good card pref dx11 when they are out as this computer is gona be upgrading in a number of ways over the next year so even if the gfx card i get bottle necks on my curret setup it wont by december

Given the i7s are better but look at the price. I run a Phenom II X3. And it doesnt have any issues at all with any games. They are strong and AMD got everything right with these, unlike the first Phenoms.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 comes out in March, beta in a few days. It supports DX11.

Supports =/= makes full use of
Can barely tell the difference between dx10 and dx9

No, BFBC2 worked exclusively with ATI to make it not just "support". It was originally "just support" like you say until they got together with ATI. Sure DX9->10 wasn't a big deal.. however, have you seen DX11 yet?
Code: Select all
BFBC2 may not use it to its MAX potential, we'll have to see. Beta in a few days.

doubt it makes much difference in bfbc2 and your video is utterly pointless i mean seriously its what we already knew except bad quality and a guy narating

least post the right video

I've seen the tessellation videos. Have you seen the dx10 from dx9 videos and images? All of them were exaggerations..I believe nothing until I play the game myself.

Dear Master_wong, I was replying to azilius. My reply wasn't to you so, yes, it is "utterly useless" to you. Also, I like the narration, gasp. You mad bro? You not get your meds bro? Bro, what's wrong?
Jesus.
EDIT @ Azilius, I agree, I was just pointing out that that there is already a game claiming to make full use of DX11. That is all.

People would be foolish to believe 11 will be any different.

I don't really see myself giving a shit about graphics, ever. Quake 3 engine has graphics that are totally fine. I find that 'better' graphics are sometimes even a nuisance because of how everything starts to 'shine' in high graphic games. Roads and stuff like that does not reflect light like a goddamn mirror!
