My Muslim friend said that he went to his Mosque(?) and the leader of it was talking about how Haiti was an example of people "living in sin" and "paying for it" going on to say it's a warning and everyone should shape up and fear the wrath of god.

That was just ironic and highly coincidental. What is most impressive is that france was able to enslave one of the lower levels of hell in the 1700's.
