Hey team,

I have a bad habit of dwindling money away once I receive it in large sums(ie: Birthdays, Christmas, on the side child labor profits,???). My 18th is coming up and I'll probably get around a grand(AUS(AUS dollar buys 93cents US)) to play around with. Any suggestions? What's something foolproof i can buy?

I bolded it for you laze fags

A grand, eh?

First thing you should do is get that number out of your head.

Then whatever you DO get is a bonus.

After that, it's your money fool, buy what you want.

Tell them to just give you presents, not money. In it's own way it's more fun anyway. you might end up with awesome little stuff that you'd never think of buying yourself.

Personally I hate getting money for bdays, it feels like they don't really care so they just go the easy way.

I love money, because I know what I want. And deepdown inside, we all know what we want

put 700 in the bank then take the other 300 and buy something that lasts, not a consumable.

first buy one pack of cigarettes, just because you can now, even if you dont smoke. Then spend like 20 bucks on lottery tickets, since you can cash them in yourself now, then put the rest in your savings so you have it when u can actually think of something.

Throw it all in a micro forex account, make a single trade on a hunch, then see what happens.

not srs

Savings account, rainy day fund. CD so you can't touch it. Just put it somewhere safe..you don't have to spend it the minute you get it. Save it for when you really need it.

Don't be stupid and spend all of it. Put like 700 in a savings account, then I guess have fun with the rest. Or just save it all.

OR as suggested before, buy candy.

Fuck that.

Treat some close friends to dinner. Then buy alcohol (I would suggest tequila, patron, jagermeister, vodka - get orange juice with this, and of course, beer) then reserve a nice hotel room (a decent suite from a 3.5 star hotel would be around $300 here). Bring an xbox/ps3 with some fighting games (TEKKEN6!!?!?!), music (laptop and nice speakers), and a crapload of cigarettes...oh and a deck of playing cards is a plus. All in all, that would probably go home to around $600. The rest is up to you. Paintball before the dinner maybe?

When I turned 18 I also got money. I decided that I would use it for something special, and on a moment where the money can really mean something significant.
So, I didn't choose for savings, because later in life the amount will not be as much in comparison.

I decided to use most of my money for a year off in Norway (next year), and the rest I keep for extra expenses during college (electronics and a good suit etc)
I got quite a bit more, but the idea would be the same. If you get 1k later in life, it won't really make much difference. You have it now, and now you can really make it count.
You could go skydiving for example. That's not really something that usually fits into the budget of an 18 y/o (or actually, idk how much it costs) and it will be an experience you will look back on your entire life.
Spending it just on random stuff now and then seems a waste, you won't really notice the value of what you've really got.
Whatever it is you do, I think it's good to do something 'big'. So you will always remember what that money bought you and how awesome that was at the time.
