Scientists say dolphins should be treated as 'non-human persons'
Dolphins have been declared the world’s second most intelligent creatures after humans, with scientists suggesting they are so bright that they should be treated as “non-human persons”.
Studies into dolphin behaviour have highlighted how similar their communications are to those of humans and that they are brighter than chimpanzees. These have been backed up by anatomical research showing that dolphin brains have many key features associated with high intelligence.
Certain philosophies do not equate persons with humans. A human would just be a biological definition whereas a person could be any being that meets specific parameters such as sentience and self-awareness.
This differentiation can lead to specific arguments on certain ethical dilemmas such as abortion and euthanasia. A fetus and a brain-dead human would not be meet the requirements of being a person. One can then set up reasons in favor of killing the said subjects, usually favoring persons over humans. These are just examples and does not reflect my personal views.

If 2012 comes I put my money on sea creatures living very very deep. So that's not dolphins! On land I put my money on cockroaches.

I'm not quite surprised that dolphins have high intelligence. It's been pretty obvious for decades really.

They're like the only creature that can survive a nuclear bomb if I remember correct.

Well you never know what will happen when the apocalypse comes, so first off you have to choose an animal/insect that can survive every condition. Cockroaches are found everywhere in the world, from searing hot deserts to the arctic. So at the moment, they can survive all climates known to man, so I'm already sure my babies won't die because of that. Then, food may be scarce so I need something that can last on little. Cockroaches can do with eating only once every four weeks and drinking every 7 days. As a matter of fact, cockroaches can survive without a head, and they only die because they can't drink without a head! That's how durable they are. They have an exoskeleton, which makes them even more durable. And if the world comes to and end for mankind, it's very likely that this will happen because of nuclear weapons. Cockroaches can survive the radiation, and they live everywhere and are vast. It is more than safe to assume that somewhere, some cockroaches will survive the blasts. Their immunity for radiation will save the day from there on.
Reproduction is also important, and a female cockroach can reproduce without the aid of a male! Unfortunately, she can't make males, but that doesn't matter afaik. Her female children can just reproduce into females again. And they'll probably meet a male somewhere along the road anyways. If not, there will only be female cockroaches. But even then, they survive. So there you have it. This is why I choose cockroaches as my ultimate survivor post apocalypse.
Come challenge my cockroaches and tell me what species you think will survive the apocalypse. I think that's a lot more interesting than stupid dolphins who are apparently smart enough to not eat their own shit. Goddamn dolphins can't even survive without a head.. pff.. what kind of world rulers are that?

+1 not to mention they have survived for over 350 million years. BTW I don't think cockroaches can survive in the extreme conditions of the arctic. That's why you don't see cockroaches anywhere during the winter.
