My father

*found this on another forum and I find it quite beautiful written*

When I was 4 Yrs Old : My father is THE BEST

When I was 6 Yrs Old: My father seems to know everyone

When I was 10 Yrs Old: My father is excellent but he is short tempered

When I was 12 Yrs Old: My father was nice when I was little

When I was 14 Yrs Old: My father started being too sensitive

When I was 16 Yrs Old : My father can't keep up with modern times

When I was 18 Yrs Old : My father is getting less tolerant as the days pass by

When I was 20 Yrs Old : It is too hard to forgive my father, how could my Mum stand him all these years

When I was 25 Yrs Old : My father seems to be objecting to everything I do

When I was 30 Yrs Old: It's very difficult to be in agreement with my father, I wonder if my Grandfather was troubled by my father when he was a youth

When I was 40 Yrs Old: My father brought me up with a lot of discipline, I must do the same

When I was 45 Yrs Old: I am puzzled, how did my father manage to raise all of us

When I was 50 Yrs Old : It's rather difficult to control my kids, how much did my father suffer for the sake of upbringing and protecting us

When I was 55 Yrs Old: My father was far looking and had wide plans for us, he was gentle and outstanding.

When I became 60 Yrs Old: My father is THE BEST

Note that it took 56 Yrs to complete the cycle and return to the starting point "My father is THE BEST "

Let's be good to our parents before it's too late and pray that our own children will treat us even better than the way we treated our parents.

im at the age 18 right now and i doubt ill ever change from that. Never work with your parents if your not forgiving. They just expect too much from you.

I don't see my father too much, but we get along great.
I think if we spent more time together that would change, seeing as he's very demanding. (Especially for school :()

I love my dad, even though my parents are divorced, he's totally awesome. He has alot of children, I'm the last one, actually, the lucky one, since he learned alot from raising my older brothers. We get along just great.

Same, he's the "strict/beat up kids/immigrant/" kinda dad. Although I'll never really hate him,I'll always remember how much he made me suffer :(

Meh. Didn't really find it touching. I don't mean to be an ass but I'm not going to lie about what I think of it either. It sounds like it was written by someone from a 5th grade English class and even if I did like my father, whom I haven't seen since I was a kid, my opinion of this would remain the same.

edit: typo fixed

My parents were the "beat your child" immigrant types as well but I thought it was well deserved although they could have toned down their level of intimidation. I love my parents although my mum is iffy. She's a drama addict so it gets tiring.

My father is what motivates me.

I want to be nothing like him.

I'm surprised by how many people dislike their father... I never had much of a quarrel with mine, we get along nicely.

Reminded me of the song "cats in the cradle"..

how can so many people hate their father?

my father is very demanding, and when I was little he used to give me a slap if i misbehaved. but so what? Him hitting teached me to act in a good way :P

though i sometimes dissagree with him, I will always love him.

my dead beat dad is quite pathetic...im pretty sure that little story only applies to angsty kids who whined about dumb shit for no reason when really they got everything they needed...so yeah if you're a brat i guess all that applies to you...if you were smart enough to recognize that maybe breaking out the belt every time something went wrong and never spending time with your kids while constantly putting them down isn't good parenting then like me you're probably looking at that thing rolling your eyes...

I agree with inky, it doesnt touch me at all.
Everyone sees it in a different way (as you can see from the replies xD).
Some will change that point of view later on, some wont.
Some have good reasons for it, some dont.

I bet there are kids around here who "hate" their father coz he dint buy him/her an Xbox.

It's incredible how many people hate their father's and all.. I can't say so. I don't love my father, but i don't hate him... You can't hate your father...

Mines done many bad things, treated me bad, never physically, but verbally. It's true he doesn't know how to love someone, but it still stay a father. No one will ever be able to hate their parents. Unless an extreme case, ofcourse. You cant just ''hate your father''

P.S. my parents are seperated, and I live with my mom, my dad lives 10,000miles away, i dont miss him, i see him 3 times a year if im lucky, but that doesn't make me stop liking him.
