So I was in Norway the last 5 days to check out some 'folkehogskolen' to spend my next year, and I'm glad to report I've succeeded in finding the school where I want to go.
In the end I chose Hurdal Verk, the same school our very own Cin went to 5 years ago!
Well here are some pics, we had a great time. Unfortunately I kept forgetting the camera when I went to visit the schools (left it in the car with my dad) so I didn't get too many pics of the schools. But I made a lot of nice pics of the beautiful nature. It was so beautiful I was really blown away, all the time on the road it was just breathtaking, I didn't even realize we were driving for like 3-4 hours a time.
So here are some (small) pics

Beautiful road and scenery. We just followed the GPS and all of a sudden we were high in the mountains, completely alone and surrounded by snow, amazing.
When I went to visit Valdres folkehogskole there was a student organized night where we had to build gingerbread houses and decorate them. Our theme was 'scary' or something, I think we failed there, but as a proud Dutchman I used my persuasion skills and Dutch engineering to convince my group to build a Dutch windmill. I think it resembles a windmill so we succeeded there, we didn't win a prize though
After Valdres we went to Hurdal Verk, this is the entrance (we tried to make more pics this time around, but failed again )
I found Cin in the gallery. They all remembered him and were very excited about it so I guess Cin had a great year.

After that we stayed at a beautiful hotel near Oslo. The pic is a bit bad but you get the idea

I personally think this is the best picture I took (my dad still has to send the high res pics, this was all just a quick fix)
Then the last night we spent in a cabin somewhere in the mountains. Absolutely beautiful. (I guess I am overusing this word, but everything was just so amazing, a completely new experience for me) The cabin was hard to reach and we had no heating, just a fireplace, it was awesome.
The woman who rented us the cabin was doing something agriculture I think, so we got a very nice package made by herself with Flatbrod, some tasty jam and something that looked like a long pancake that had butter and sugar on the inside. We prepared it all on our fire and it was all delicious.
Me keeping the place warm
Seeing as the cabin was so remotely located in the hills and the weather wasn't too favorable, we had some issues getting back on the roads. So the woman who rented us the cabin had to call her husband who pulled us out with his big bad four wheel drive car. (I guess our rented Ford Fiesta wasn't the best choice to cruise through Norway, but oh well, we got around)
So all in all I had a wonderful trip to Norway and I'm really excited to go there next year.

Joking aside, those are some very beautiful pictures. Norway seems like a really nice place to live in. And I want to thank you for not using gigantic 10-foot images like some people seem to do. They don't even use spoilers! /minirant

Environment, bro! We actually weren't too prepared, we didn't expect all this snow since the weather reports said it was only like -1C so we thought most snow wouldn't stay for too long. We were wrong, I guess we should have rented a four wheel drive. (Cars are also ridiculously expensive to rent/buy in Norway. Seeing as we're Dutch the expenses are always important )

It's like a year off, a gap year. There's no real academic curriculum and you get to focus on other things in life. Being social, learning new abilities that will last you a life time or just general fun things from skiing and mountain biking to climbing. It all depends on what you choose to do and how willing you are to do it. I got a really positive impression at Hurdal Verk, I thought there were really nice people, my 'tour guide' was also very nice and it just 'felt right'.
I think the schools are definitely 'special'. There's just nothing like it in the Netherlands, or any other country for that matter (besides Scandinavia). Anyways, if you're interested you can check the schools site: http://www.hvf.no or the general folkhighschool site http://www.fhs.no

and yeah, i guess you're probably taking it for the same reason as i did, because all other things you can do right here at home as well while friluftsliv is something you probably won't be doing anywhere soon
