a mcdonalds manager will look at you like a retard if you bring a resume. that is, unless you are directly applying for a high management position. they may even decide you are OVER qualified to work as a crew member and not hire you. fill out the application, wait a few days, call them to follow up. wait a few more days and make 1 more follow up call.

^^Thanks Thomas42

Re: jobs at fast food restaurants.
I don't think the mcdonalds manager is going to do anything but put your application at the top of the stack if you bring in a resume, whether it has no jobs on it or 10, they look at it as initiative and wont discredit it due to the fact that you are applying to a mcdonalds, the economy is tough right now, consider yourself lucky if you even get hired, atleast that is how it is in california, cant speak for any other state.

Don't treat it like the job it is, treat it like the job you want. Even if it's not required - bring a resume; at worse, it's pratice. I would even suggest a cover letter to hand in with your application + resume.

Couldn't have said it any better :O. As for the resume and stuff, if you're under 18, I highly doubt Mc Dons will care to see one. Protip: Do not do online applications, go to the Restaurant and ask for an application, make sure you look nice. Make sure you also do the same for the interview, give firm handshakes even if its a female interviewing you. Make sure you tell them its the job you want, but do not sound desperate. When I got hired at Mc Dons I was 15, I just made myself look presentable, and practiced for the interview, also, unless you speak spanglish, I wouldn't suggest a job in the kitchen >_>

Yes take the time to dole out a resume and cover letter for a minimum wage shit pushing job.
They either hire you or they don't, it's McDonald's.
You think any of the high school kids they have working there presented a resume? Hell no.

This.
I needed quick cash for the holiday season, and I got desperate and applied at McDonalds. I got a reference from my friend who works there; so chances look high
My cousin told me that its better to just hand in a resume + job application in person than to apply online if you're going to work for a fast food restaurant or retail (that is unless the retail store you're applying to is Best Buy or Future Shop).

$12 for a 24 pack here
But on topic, it depends on the application. When I applied to Burger King they had a section for everything that would have been on my resume. If there isn't a specific section for something you think will increase your chances for a job, just put it in the most relevant section. Worked for me, I got the job. And if you do get the job, try to be the person who puts together the sandwiches. That was the most fun thing for me.

edit @ kilnchil what state you live in homie?
well i guess things differ from when i was 16 and went into mcd's with my app., spoke with the manager, and walked out an employee.
but then again there are more and more people who dont speak fluent english working at these places too. if your going to make up a resume, you may aswell go the full nine yards and take a few years of spanish also. if anything just for the practice... especially if you live in cali with awake, im pretty sure you have to at least minor in spanish just to place an order. i dont view this as racist, because its true. forgive me if this offends... lemme make it up to you with this lovely flan.

Re: jobs at fast food restaurants.
I wouldnt take in a resume.
Then again for my job (working in a pub kitchen), i got recommended by someone already working there. Went in one day, had a 5 minute talk, then a 6 hour trial.. then had the job. And still working there 11 months later.

seriously
i doubt having a resume over someone who has a friend or relative working will be better
most jobs people get are through someone they know

The kind of people that end up with good jobs are the kind of people that would take the time to write a resume and cover letter.
It's about praticing and developing good habits. So what if he takes an extra hour to do it right? Won't do any harm.

Re: jobs at fast food restaurants.
You can do whatever you want. All my friends who work just went there, asked if they needed people, asked for an application form and were invited for a small interview.
They didn't make any resumes or anything, they're just not needed.
It's not important how creative you are, or other random resume bullcrap. It's important when and how long you can work, it's menial work.
Personally I would only bring a resume if there was a real need to set myself apart from others, i.e. there is high competition.

But that retard will be in the manager's head opposed to the other 10 people with answering just a few questions.
As for them not being needed.. of course. I'm sure any fast food joint don't give a shit, but as dom said make an attempt and you'll know how to make a better one later on.

Technically live in Georgia, but go to college in S. Carolina. Beer is cheap b/c it is a college town.
