Another Bugatti Veyron Bites The Dust [1.25m dollar car]

The Bugatti Veyron is the unequivocal king of function, flare and raw power on today’s tarmac. It has received much fan-fare for being the best at many things. Unfortunately for one man in Texas, seaworthiness is not one of them.
As his woeful story goes, the driver was cruising by a lagoon when a “low-flying pelican” startled him into yanking the wheel, dropping his cell-phone and sending his Bugatti Veyron into a salt-water marsh. That makes it the fourth of its kind, the rarest and most expensive production car in the world, to meet its maker. Lucky for us, a good samaritan caught the aftermath on video and passed it along to WreckedExotics. Check it out after the jump.
Most would write-off a car that’s been deep-sixed in salt-water. But how does one write-off a two-million dollar car of which only 300 will be ever made? That would be like tossing a Van Gogh on the fire because someone sneezed on it.
The damage sustained may not seem that expensive as there is little body damage. With a first service cost of over $20,000 and $10,000 tire changes every 2,500 miles, we know better. This car already burns more money than it does fuel when running perfectly. And now the owner has to deal with four turbos, 16 cylinders and more electronics than a NASA shuttle that have all taken a salt-water bath. Don’t forget the once pristine leather and suede adorned interior. We hear salt-water and leather don’t mix.
We here at Wired found the story a little half-baked and think it had more to do with the cell phone than the pelican. But whatever the story is, we think the driver could take a few pointers from Captain Sullenberger of Flight 1549 on how to land a multi-million dollar piece of machinery in water and blame it on the birds. Who knows, maybe someone will make a 3D simulation of this water landing too.
