Hey team,
I'm a complete noob on the topic and I find googling these things usually gives me millions and millions of thalidomide toned answers.
Pro's? Cons?
Reccomendations?
Thanks in advance

Would definitely go for LCD. Plasmas arent really worth it, get too hot for my tastes.

Apart from heat and light, are there any other pluses with an LCD?

Most are rather lower power consumption, far as picture, wont really tell a difference, but that depends the models and brands.

LCD looks great, pretty similar to plasma and somewhat less expensive. Plasma would be for pure luxury purposes. Personally I don't see much difference in looks.
Yay...boobs..

i have a nice plasma myself, we have an LCD downstairs.
My plasma has better colors imo, and the image is as sharp as it gets.
But indeed, LCD aint bad at all either, and consumes a lot less power.

Plasma supposedly has better colors, but after reading quite some comparisons myself most tests do end with a big + to LCD.

LCD
Positives
1.Lower power consumption
2.brighter images
3.less heat generated
4.No problems with "Burn" marks
5.non reflective
6.More 3d feel to movies(NO glass panel)
7.Smaller sizes to choose from(Plasma starts from 42inches)
8.Light in weight
Negatives
1.poor standard/digital def images
2.Dark scenes sucks big time...
3.Motion blur still a major pain in da ass(Sucks when theres lots of quick movement, eye hurts lol)
PLASMA
Positives
1.Slightly darker images(more cinematic effect)
2.Much better Standard/Digital def images
3.dark scenes are still very detailed
4.no motion blur(Action movies and sports look better)
5.More Image depth
Negatives
1.Slightly higher power consumption(not a very big difference)
2.Can get pretty hot if turned on for too long
3.Still possible to get those annoying "Burn" Marks
4.Reflective panel(Like CRT television, so if you got a bright light you can see a reflection)
5.Sizes only start from 42inches
6.Heavier in terms of weight
7.Has a glass panel on top of the screen... makes the image look further
Still a bunch more other things... but i can't remember! Anyways i used to sell televisions for a few different brands. I think that if you are interested in Image quality colors blah blah you should definitely get a PLASMA, LCD's image does not even come anywhere close to PLASMA especially for larger screens.
LCD's are so popular because they are real cheap & are available in many different sizes. But overall image quality sucks.
In my opinion...
Best LCD would be Philips- Anything with the Pixel Perfect Engine.
Best PLASMA would be the Pioneer KURO- unfortunately stopped manufacturing due to recession and shit. But some stores might still be selling it.
Anyways my advice is bring along a DVD of a movie that you like... Ask the sales people to try it out for you on the different screens then get the one that you think looks the closest to what you expect! Don't let the demo or sales people manipulate you lolz

I've never actually owned a plasma TV, however I have heard that they have better picture quality.
But for the long run maybe a LCD would be better for any new buyers since the new model LCD's are almost as good as a plasma in terms of picture quality and LCD's tend to last a lot longer then plasma's(since they tend to burn out).
Right now I have a sony 52inch 200hertz LCD and when it's connected to HD channels or my bluray player then the picture quality is amazing, I don't see how much better it could be.
I guess it comes down to personal preference, but I'd definately vouch for an LCD.

few days ago heh.. don't think much has changed since then..
Perhaps there wouldn't be much of diff if you talk about high def transmission or blu ray disc's and shit...
We don't have much of that content here as yet. DVD's and standard def stuff still looks MUCH better on a PLASMA tele.

Ja, i bought a sony bravia 200hz 52"
LCD(btw i bought it for 3.5k AUS) and it is the
clearest image i've ever seen. Friends ask me whats wrong with my tv when they see it, the picture kinda looks like its going in fast foward.
And lol, i dont know if its just australia, but plasmas are dirt cheap compared to any LCD.
I dunno where your getting your information from, maybe from 3 years ago.

LCD by far, they are usually less expensive, perform better ( not sure if this is still a problem still but plasmas used to burn while gaming ) and IQ for the most part is identical. oh wait they also use less energy and have a longer lifespan, are you sold yet ?
