Wow... just wow... It's insane thinking back to my old 8-bit consoles and now this... god dam...

Xemnas, I believe it's a new graphics engine that is to be used in new games. If it runs as smooth as the demo, I will be buying a ps3. I can't imagine what the new FF with that engine running it would look like. I still remember when FF7 was OMG pretty.

Looks amazing. Why don't more games use the CryEngine?

For consoles so shouldn't tax a system too much.

Amazing. It will be awesome to see most if not all games in quality like that. That would really be huge step in player immersion into a game imho.

Great, maybe they'll tack a good game onto it this time.

Crysis 2 will take advantage of it. The game will most likely be for show-off rather than gameplay again.

lol, remember when they were going to release that expansion or whatever it was (warhead i think) and they said that the game had to be able to work on a $700 machine, well the challenge for this one will be a $1700 machine i bet :D

I know what it is but what does it mean. I mean how many systems would be able to utilize it. How many developers will be using it. They show it working for PC, PS3, and 360 but i just don't see where they're going with it and i doubt developers will be using it to its full capacity within the next 3-4 year. By the time they do to start maxing it out or even touching on what it could be they'll have cry engine 4 out...i don't a reason to get excited or it, seems excessive.

It means Crytek once again showed the world it's capable of making a graphics engine that's so poorly optimized and coded that it can only run on the best machines. But hey, at least it looks good right?

I'd even go as far as to say those bits where it showcased different consoles running it were complete bullshit. The only way a game on current gen consoles could look that good without immediately bursting into flames would be to have it made by Crytek themselves. Considering that the original Crysis didn't even make it to consoles I'd love to see what they come up with.

Personally I gauge the quality of a game engine on its flexibility and how well it's been used and received by the industry. Right now Unreal Engine 3 holds the title of "best engine" for this gen IMO. Source following in a close second, falling behind in both games produced and graphics/performance.

I saw this couple days ago. I knew that ps3 and xbox360 are able to perform pretty nice looking graphics but I never imagined they could go this far.

reading up bout saying crysis was a bad game, it was a technical demonstration not a game so much yes they wanted it to sell but they made it so it showed off as much of the engine as possible, i mean unreal anyone?

Theres only but so much graphics can improve also you seem to be ignoring the trend in the game industry that games are taking longer and longer to make and because of this the prices are getting higher so by the time you have kids they'll probably have just started using this engine and each game will cost $100

yeh i know this is my second comment on this topic but first i usually make with a breif read of the thread 2nd is my main reply.

you dont know shit about the gaming industry yet comment as if you do.

as i said before crysis the game (including expansion) are nothing more then technical demonstrations with extra features to show off the max that the engine can do, warhead optimized the engine as been a new engine it has problems, warhead gave similar quality at a better proformance.

each engine has strong points and weak points im not going into depth on this as it should be oblivous, unreal 3 engine boasts a large user base as out of the box it works on all platforms (minus handheld) source does not but has a large fan base and is easy to mod for which attracts many map makers, modders etc

cry engine is new very new infact compared to the source and unreal, it sticks to its strong points and games that are made for it although lack a good story gameplay wise are interesting and fun to play, dont care if you dont like it im talking in general.

cry engine 3 will again boast a game to show its technical abilitys this isnt just a game its to show other developers what it can do, unreal engine has the unreal games (yes they are technical demonstrations), source has half life although this is actually a game aswell but they often force new features into this game to show off what the engine can do, but source is more private compared to the others so no need to show it off that much.

i digress my point is if every game is made on the same platform things will be boring and dull not to mention theres only so much you can do with one engine.

secondly about your point of only high end pc's or good pc's are able to play the game why not? doom3 was the same and that was made on the id tech 4 engine (which isnt known for pushing any boundries)

lastly please quit posting on these subjects you have shown no knowlege of how games are made, what goes on within the industry and other various points im not an expert but i know to some degree whats involved and although im sure your going to disagree iv got an open mind if someone can prove otherwise to me i will take it onboard

Gameplay or graphics?

I do agree that games look really good now, but the gameplay has become way too stagnant (for me personally) to actually be worth the money. I still enjoy playing games on my NES and PS/PS2. They don't have the best graphics by far but at least I can expect more than a slew of generic, over-hyped FPS and racing games.
