OSLO - President Barack Obama on Friday won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee said Obama was honored for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

A record 205 nominations were received this year.

i totally support obama, but i dont understand why hes getting this award.

odd tho, fox news said that the RNC and the taliban were on the same page on their attitude towards this. yet another unexpected event this morning.

Well if it were McCain there's a good chance we would be in the middle of Iran right now, and backing Israel and its war crimes against Palestine. We're also doing better with Russia these days as well.

Let em give the guy a Peace Prize if they want, whatever.

I bet most of the people who are in here and have been saying he doesn't deserve it don't even keep up with what he's been doing around the world. I expect nothing less from you guys though. Take a look at what he's been able to accomplish diplomatically so far. He's done a great deal of work in changing the international image of our country for the better. He's done a great deal of work trying to foster friendships with former enemies and helping to work with the international community to avert military actions.

Does he deserve a peace prize for it, i dunno, im not sure who else they turned down but just saying. "He got it cause he's black" is just as bad as them giving it to him just because he's black if that happened to be the case. Had a white person or an asian person won it nobody would be saying "he got it cause he's white"....do you even realize your own hypocrisy... doubtful

as much as ppl wanna deny it, i'm sure it was a factor (h/e small it was), as far as i know about latest usa-world relations, the only turn around has been with some south american nations, but i'm sure it's not noteworthy enough alone to receive a nobel prize

You didn't say it was a factor, you said it was the reason, completely ignoring everything he's done internationally. Had you said his skin color was probably one of many factors we wouldn't be having this discussion.

thought it was too early to give it to obama but this makes enough sense. I'm just worried it will make him look bad

OT: A bit too early, and his skin color should have absolutely nothing to do with his capabilities, intelligence, ability to govern and communicate.
